System freezing

I am using a new HP computer which has worked fine until I installed the GRID. I usually leave it running all day but put the program and computer into snooze for the night. Some days it works fine and other days, the system seems to freeze up (screen saver, mouse, keyboard, power button) so that I have to turn off the power at the source and then reboot. Tne GRID program seems to start from where it left off.

If others have experienced this and have a solution, I would like to know. Thanks

Re: System freezing

Larry --

I did some searches in the forums and the only thing I came up with that seemed similar was the thread Screensaver Freezes. I assume that you are putting the system in "Standby" when you say you put it into snooze for the night. I have always had problems myself with standby and avoid using it because of this and, as a result, I can't offer you much in the way of assistance on this problem.

I do wonder why you would want to have it on standby for the night. Most of us that leave our systems powered up 24/7 run the WCG software 24/7 as well with no ill effects. I have set my desktop properties to Screensaver "none" and the power settings to power off the monitor after 10 minutes (leaving the rest of the power settings to "never"). I have been running this way now for just over a year on the two systems I have here at home with no ill effects.

In the thread that I referenced on the screensaver freeze, my colleague Mycrofth makes some recommendations regarding possible problems with the registry which might be a place to start if you really feel you need to put the system in standby overnight.

If this continues to be a problem for you, please post here again and perhaps one of the other Admins or one of the WCG Techs will jump in with some insight that I don't have.

Best regards,

Re: System freezing

Thanks Lewis:

I appreciate your comment on running the system 24/7; but the system freezing is my main issue right now. However, it could be a problem with the screen saver interface, so I will check those settings.
