WindowsXP Fast Shutdown

If you have fast shutdown option enabled (= Windows does not wait until programs properly closed to shutdown faster) you may get problems with WorldCommunityGrid Agent.

Some Windows tweak programs allow you to set this options. The Agent can not properly save it's result in some cases, so it is better to turn off this somehow superfluous option.

I lost two or three unfinished packages before I found it out, so I want to tell everyone not to make the same mistake.

Re: WindowsXP Fast Shutdown

I have a fast shutdown, but i've never seen any problems on my end. My advice is to first do some fast shutdowns as you normally would, and check to see if wcg is affected. If it isn't, go ahead and use it, but if there are problems, then disable it. wink

Re: WindowsXP Fast Shutdown

For some WindowXP Tweak programs, they just give you a button to enable/disable fastshtdown and you never know what they have done to your system/registry. It would be safer to manually set the parameters. To make the shutdown faster but not like magic for suddenly closing all your programs, I use the following and encounter no problem -

Save your current registry settings before making the changes by running regedit then File/Export.
Edit the registry using regedit and set the following-

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
set AutoEndTasks to 1

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
set HungAppTimeout from 5000 to 1000

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control
set WaitToKillServiceTimeout to 1000
