Edit button

I recently edited a post and would recommend changing the caption/text of the button that posts the edited text back to the forum. The current text is "Edit" and doesn't seem to match its function, since I clicked on an 'edit' link to display the edit page.

The current button works. I'm suggesting the text change to make the page use a bit more intuitive. Place this recommendation in your UI feature change.

I have read this message several times, but am uncertain what replacement text you are asking for.

Re: Edit button

I think having an "edit" button that says "Edit a Post" to finish editing the post is fairly common on the web. Since there are only 3 buttons and the other two say "Preview" and "Reset" it seems pretty clear which one is the button that will submit your edited post.

Frankly, I don't understand these BBBoard clones. It is like taking a leap into the dark ages, but with animated gifs and avatars. Usenet was better. Threads, darnit! Hierarchy! Only then can you have a decent conversation. Apart from that, these boards have too many flaws to be enumerated.

But then, some people seem happy with this. Words fail me.

I guess what he is saying is something that seems to have confused several other users too, i.e.

Options to reply with quote etc are in the top right hand side of the message. When you do reply to a message and go back to check, you see the usual options plus the option to remove your post in that same place. There doesn't appear to be an option to edit your message, because the 'edit' option is in the left corner with an icon instead of text.

I think what is confusing for people is the sudden introduction of an icon (offset to a different location of the window) instead of the usual text options in the usual place. Once you get used to it, it's easy to live with, but for a first-timer, it IS confusing. sad

Re: Edit button

I see. I seem to have misinterpreted the original post then...

I do have to agree that the "edit" link on the left side of the post is confusing. Especially since you can barely read the actual word "edit" against the gray background (Yes, I'm criticizing my own site smile - it's healthy)

Most people seem to have figured it out though, so we'll leave it that way until we've finished more critical issues.

Re: Edit button

Thanks for the quick and healthy response, nelsoc.

I agree it is low on the priorities list, but since I have noticed a couple of similar posts on the subject, perhaps it could be added to the FAQs?
