Please : FAQ on how to run on non-internet connected PC

Ok, there are various threads where people are asking how to run the agent on a machine not connected to the internet.

Could someone please consolidate this information into a form understandable by those who are not computer hackers?

Some kind of a step by step guide?

Right now I have a P4 machine sitting at home doing nothing during the day, would love to get it crunching.

Re: Please : FAQ on how to run on non-internet connected PC

go to grid.org and search their forum for "sneakernet". Basically, you can copy everything in the WCG directory back and forth to a machine on the internet/not on the internet. They have the process laid out fairly well, with the difference being that they are using a United Devices directory and we here are using a WCG directory. The UD interface is the same, but UD and WCG cannot coexist because of slight differences in the project programs themselves.

Another clever idea seen here somewhere is to use a USB travel drive/thumb drive, and just run WCG on that drive on the internetless computer. If it's also being used that way on the internet computer and it's not trying to run ANOTHER WCG device, well, there you go. Everything can stay on the travel drive and it can just live on one computer or the other.

It's possible to use multiple computers and multiple slots with UDMonitor, but it's also easy to mess up because you have overlaid the wrong device. UDMonitor also uses subdirectories in the WCG directory for the slot swapping.
