Launching a new Browser Window

Hi gang,

I just joined WCG a week ago and overall, I think the software is nicely designed. It's unobtrusive and does not interfere with my computer's normal operations. I like the fact that I'm able to help with research projects by contributing my computer's processing power.

Being new to these forums, I don't know for sure if this has been suggested in the past. My only wish is that when you click to "View your scores" or "View your device list" link, that the software opens a new browser window instead of using one of the already opened browser window.

I'm using Windows XP.

Re: Launching a new Browser Window

Hello BooyaNY,
Just how your browser behaves is a function of the way you set it up. I do not know which browser you are using, but try something like 'Tools' - 'Options' and see if you can locate your browser controls.

Re: Launching a new Browser Window

True, when I click e.g. "View your scores" I get a new browser window, even if another window is still open.

I used to have this as well at my work, but since I re-installed Windows XP last week, I'm having the same problem. So it's definately some kind of setting, but I can't find where I can change it... blushing

Try Tool-Internet Options-Advanced, then check or uncheck the box for "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts." biggrin

Re: Launching a new Browser Window

The only downside to this solution is that clicking on any link in any web page in the future will open a new window.

Imagine you at a page that has text '...the answer can be found by clicking here...' If you click on thet link, a new page would open (because you have set this as your prefernce). In most instances, this would be seen by many as an annoyance.

My recomendation would be to leave things the way they were in your IE preferences, so that by default a ew window is not opened. Then if as in the case you have described, you wish the link to open a new window, you should...

Right Click on the link
Select Open in New Window

If the recomendation you have been given is good enough for you, then of course use it, but using my recomendation, you will not fill your screen with new windows, but still be able to open a new one whenever you want. biggrin

This is wrong. The setting is for external processes that try to open a web page. Normal browsing is unaffected. keithhenry's advice is spot on.
