Don't install Window OneCare Live beta

It didn't find any viri that my existing virus scanners haven't found

It takes ages to run through your system check

It makes your PC run like a dog

It blocks the World Community Grid agent even when you have allowed it

It's now taking ages to uninstall

You've been warned - remember where you heard it first.

Bill it's back to the drawing board mate.

I tried it out so you don't have to. It's a dangerous job but someone had to do it.

Hopefully I'll still have a PC to post on when it's uninstalled

Re: Don't install Window OneCare Live beta

Hence the testing phase you download it at your own risk!!!

I was going to download it but its not compatiable with my system, I have Microsoft Antispyware Beta on my system that works good

As with any testing phase I would expect serious bugs, minor bugs and a whole host of other problems

Still in business

Hi Halifax--lad I'm a Leeds no Pudsey--lad myself

I've enjoyed using AntiSpyware Beta which has recently updated and given us another free 6 months. PC Tools Spyware doctor is more thorough though.

First impressions of OneCare live haven't been good though but you have to give these things at least a try.

It's just the irony of MS producing antivirus and antispyware products that makes me smile.

O.K., can't hold my tounge on this thought...

Expecting MS to turn out an even a fair AV is like expecting them to turn out an OS that isn't full of security holes. For some reason I just don't see it hapinin.

Re: Don't install Window OneCare Live beta

There's only one anti-spyware program which I would consider using, and that is HitmanPRO (www.hitmanpro.nl).
This application installs, configures and runs all below mentioned programs with one push on the button:

- Ad-Aware SE 1.06 Personal
- Spybot Search & Destroy 1.4
- Spy Sweeper 3 en 4
- Spyware Doctor 3.2 Lite
- CWShredder 2.15
- SpywareBlaster 3.4
- Spyware Block List
- NOD32 AntiThreat 2.5
- Sysclean Package
- SuperDAT

The website is written in Dutch, but I believe that the program is in English as well. This is the only thing I'm running along with AVG-Free and I'm still running my *first* Windows install since more than 2 years!

Re: Don't install Window OneCare Live beta

I've had wocl installed for months now, and have had no problem with it and wcg. The only time i have any problem is when i update wocl and all i have to do is just allow wcg to access the internet again.

Dave
Thanks for the warning. I confess that I am glad that there are brave souls out there who are willing to try new programs from Microsoft. For me, unless Bill Gates puts me on his payroll to troubleshoot his products - I will remain a cynic and avoid them until: they are no longer new, have had at least 3 major patches to fix problems and folks like you give the all clear sign to use them.
