Increase in points generated

Whut hoppened? Starting 11/7, we've gone from 12M - 15M points/day to, yesterday, 27M!
Is this Linux users? Bunch of new partners?

Re: Increase in points generated

Could be several reasons: If you are running BOINC, the points are only awarded after the results you have sent in are "validated". This validation has not been too regular as of late for various reasons...the longer we go, the more routine and regular it will become.

If you are running the UD agent, then it could be that you had a very long unit run for some of days and then report in. Normally these things vary from day to day so there is not much to worry about especially with the bigger FAAH Work Units.

Now, since the BOINC stats is still being worked on, it could be something in there that the techs have changed and I have not heard about it yet; but likely nothing to worry about.

We have also had an increase of about 25% in registered members. Considering how many of the old registered members seem to have stopped running the WCG, the new members probably have a much greater impact than just 25%. Additionally, the delay in awarding points for the BOINC agent is probably playing a roll as well as RT indicated.

Re: Increase in points generated

A lot of people have left grid.org lately after several outages. The same goes for Find-a-Drug after they announced their closing on December 16th.

I guess many of those people have joined WCG.

Re: Increase in points generated

The launch of the FightAIDS@Home project has likely also played a role in the increase.

I know that's what brought me on board. To see something interesting, do a search for teams whose names include the word "gay." Then take a look at their points spikes.

This project has been getting coverage in the gay press. Hence my presence and that of probably a few thousand others. smile
