You may not gain much with HT (if anything at all, perhaps even lose some), but it is cool to see 2 WUs crunching at once. I actually ran 2 identical systems for a few weeks, one with HT, one with HT disabled. The HT system did take a little longer to complete, but it did do more work. The run time, points, and results were higher with HT over a month period.... not by much though. Sounds like time to order an 8-way Xeon with dual cores  Well, I'm hoping I'll have the budget to get some quad cores when they are out in a few months. The direction AMD and Intel are going, in a few years people will have a datacenter in just a system or two. Looking at at the last 10 years and seeing how things have changed is one thing... but trying to imagine what will happen in another 10 years.... that is incredible. Nine years ago I had to have 7 42U racks of storage enclosures to get up to 3.5 TB of disk storage on a Quad 200 MHz Pentium Pro system. Now, it's quite a few TB of storage in just 2U, and driven by a heck of a lot more processing power. Can you imagine things 10 years from now? Man I'm a geek. hehe -j |
