speaking of team member rankings....
I note that JMatthews has regularly been in the top 5 of ALL WCG members for his daily crunching, and is closing in on being in the top 10 for the All-time statistics (currently 13 and closing!) He just joined last November, a full year past most others on the board, so his ranking is really a testament to his effort.I also thought I detected a few more Thanks to everyone, we have also just moved up to #20 for the all-time total points statistics! |

currently 13 and closing Thankie... Thankie... I'm workin' on it. I did have a couple systems added. Eh... a dual core Opteron here and a 3.4 GHz Xeon or two there. Also a few "upgrades" to exisiting systems. Hmm... if I take that 3.2 proc from that server and add it to this other 3.2 proc system... then put two 3.0 procs in the first system... yeaaaaah... But, alas.. there is bad news. This can't last forever. Due to... uh.... changes beyond my control that will occur later this year, several of my older systems will... <sigh> be scrapped later this year. I'm gonna miss my old Pentium III 4-way and 8-way servers. Also, any systems still able to run will be down for a couple weeks late this year due to a relocation effort. But before that happens, I hope to hit 20 or 30 million points. And, perhaps I'll get some new systems to take their place. Amazing how much power a new little 1U server has compared to a 6 or 7 year old 14U server. I'm gonna keep crunchin' till I can't crunch no more! ![]() -j |

If I'm lucky, I may hit 1 million before you hit 10!

If I'm lucky, I may hit 1 million before you hit 10 At 10,000ish a day, yeah.... you should get to 1,000,000 before I get to 10,000,000. I'll probably only be around 9,000,000. hehe. If I can keep this pace, I'll be doing near 5,000,000 a month. I shouldn't need to start paring down systems until late summer. Gawd I hate moving. Moving offices is bad enough (especially with the 7 years of junk I've collected), but moving a lab is... pure heck. I've got to pack more stuff into a lot less space. It would be nice to have more folks on the team above the 1,000,000 mark. So... does anyone else on the team besides you (CKizer), Boy, and Scubaboy ever read these threads? Or are they all in chat rooms trying to... nevermind. -j |

Or are they all in chat rooms trying to... nevermind. -j Good question! I am sure a few team members besides those you mentioned will lurk in every once in a while. My suspicion is that most team members install one device then forget about it and it eventually dies. Others install one or more, keep up with them, but have no interest in the forums. A few go crazy and commandeer every spare machine we can lay our hands on then get social here. Having only joined in Jan '06, I have no idea what the team was like back in the beginning (Nov '04). Boy would have a better idea since it looks like he joined up the day after the team was formed. All in all, we are not doing too bad for a team who's captain ceased returning results nine months ago (again, boy might be able to shed some light there too). ![]() |

A few go crazy and commandeer every spare machine we can lay our hands on then get social here. I've looked around my lab and noticed so many systems sitting idle... some powered off... and some powered on without even an OS loaded. I've often thought "what a waste of computing resources". My team often uses a system for a specific project or set of projects. Once they are over, new hardware is required for the next set. Since most of my folks are working with SAS/SATA systems, those old U160 or U320 SCSI RAID systems just aren't getting used for much. Heck... I'd NEVER even used my 15 blade servers until I got them running for FAAH. By the time I got them, the reason I'd needed them had changed or disappeared, so the only thing they were doing is acting as a space heater! As for being social here... yeah... I have to have SOME kind of life. I'm not a total geek. (just a major one). Having only joined in Jan '06, And yer doin' quite well yourself! All in all, we are not doing too bad for a team who's captain ceased returning results nine months ago (again, boy might be able to shed some light there too). Ya know..... I've been wondering about that.... ![]() -j |

Boy would have a better idea since it looks like he joined up the day after the team was formed. All in all, we are not doing too bad for a team who's captain ceased returning results nine months ago (again, boy might be able to shed some light there too). Not much help here, unfortunately. I did sign up for the grid the same day they announced it publicly, but I have never heard from our "captain". You may be able to contact a forum administrator, and ask if they could contact the captain via his email. Perhaps he would relinqish his position if he really wasn't interested in the grid anymore. It was also pretty quiet on the forums for the first year, but when the Fight AIDS@Home project came over, I noted an increase in team membership, and I decided to start a team thread, and just welcome people to the team, primarily so people would know that the team existed. |
