Re: Of Human Nature...

If people are afraid of spam and viruses, they shouldn't download files, emails, use IMs, browse websites or connect to their ISP.
If everyone has sex with their wife only, then what happens if their wife gets HIV? However, keeping your pants on doesn't hurt when you're trying to prevent the spread of STDs.

Re: Of Human Nature...

Yeah, I've had similar reactions from people too. I posted a thread up on a forum I post in quite regularly, and not one person replied. I doubt anyone even bothered to view the links to this website.
So i'm pretty disapointed with them, I'm usually not so bothered if nobody replies to my thread, but this was different and I doubt I'll be posting there so much from now. It's down to ignorance mainly.

But still, there seem to be quite a lot of new users each day since I first signed up last week, which is only a good thing. The more we can publicise this project and get people to sign up the better!

Re: Of Human Nature...

Hello Matthew674,
Don't be so harsh about your acquaintances. Most people go through life without carefully studying each new place they enter for hidden dangers. Instead they follow a simple rule - - if a big crowd is there then somebody has suspiciously vetted the place and checked it out as OK. Confronted with spam and computer viruses, people are naturally cautious.

I think that distributed computing will really take off when it hits critical mass in the schools. It will probably start in the universities, then work down into high schools.

It just takes time.

Re: Of Human Nature...

Is there any kind of statement by WCG that indicated that it is very unlikely - if not impossible - to receive spam/virusses in this way?

Cannot say I know of one. What I can state is that I have been online (broadband link) since April this year and I have never received any spam. I have actively participated on the forum and coresponded with tech support - NO SPAM ever.

Re: Of Human Nature...

7 years of run time running the Windows agent that the WCG is using.

Nothing not a virus, a spam, malware nothing.

Never once slowed down my PC. And as long as you Hoover (Dyson) your fans out every now and again no overheating problems either

This is the best program you can run on your PC.

What other excuse can you come up with for owning a 3Ghz processor biggrin

Happy crunching and long may it continue
Dave
