Snapdragon x plus feedback

1. Download of the 45 megabytes required data is very slow, even on very fast network connection, can make some users believe the download process is stuck, when not in advanced view, where you can see the download progress.

2. Getting 8 concurrent tasks, one for each CPU core, but these are running through x64, not ARM64, so not native support here.

3. Estimated remaining time is almost 10 hours for each task, despite 1 percent getting completed every 1 minute, so if possible, please make these estimated times more accurate.

4. Only getting cancer mapping tasks, no other projects.

Re: Snapdragon x plus feedback

Africa Rainfall Project has been stopped for the moment. Mapping Cancer is the only project currently sending out work units.

Cheers

That's more likely an issue with your local WiFi connection,, rather than a general WCG/MCM download system.
I just checked my own Samsung Tab A10+, which also has an 8 core SnapDragon 450 CPU, as that didn't show up in my results, due to a stuck Android update and it pulls the data files with a rather reasonable speed here in the office...
2. Getting 8 concurrent tasks, one for each CPU core, but these are running through x64, not ARM64, so not native support here.
Not sure what exactly you are seeing here, but a SnapDragon is an ARM CPU, that can't run x64 code to begin with.

The time required highly depends on the available RAM, and with less than a GB of RAM per core, one percent per minute is rather overly optimistic.
My own tablet finishes them in between 2.8 and 4.5 hours. As for the estimate, this is a "feature" of the BOINC client, not the WCG app...
4. Only getting cancer mapping tasks, no other projects.
As Sgt.Joe already mentioned, this to be expected. Beside that not all projects have ARM code applications..

Re: Snapdragon x plus feedback

It sounds like you are running an x86 OS on an ARM CPU. That is almost certainly the reason for the inefficiency. If the computer/tablet is used for crunching only, then consider switching to an android based OS.

Yes, he can, it's a Windows machine and Windows can emulate x64 when needed. It's the same thing as Apple did when they switched from Intel to ARM, but it's of course likely using more processing power for the emulation than for crunching.

What "is a Windows machine"?

Re: Snapdragon x plus feedback

A computer running Windows...
Not funny. devilish

The OP was referring to a "SnapDragon X plus" based device. That is a CPU by Qualcomm, based on the ARM RISC architecture, featuring 8 to 12 cores (he mentioned 8 core) with the ARM V10 and ARM V11 instruction set. This is not the same as Intel/AMD x64,hence me questioning what exactly HE was seeing when he referred to that.

If this ARM RISC CPU based device is running Windows, then this is a specific ARM based Windows version, like on specific laptops from Microsoft and HP or Lenovo (that are ones that I know). And if those versions would have an x64 emulation layer, then it certainly would be no wonder that he sees a rather low performance, as the CPU by itself does not natively execute Intel/AMD x64 code...

Re: Snapdragon x plus feedback

Now I'm not getting any WU*s at all, how to fix this, and any progress on adding native Windows 11 ARM64 support to the project?
