Access to the running task

I've had difficulty with my computer (WindowsME, upgraded to WindowsXP) with program icons not always appearing when they should in the startup taoolbar (right of the screen). Absent access to the world community grid icon, the only way I can access the program is to set it so that it will not start at bootup. Is there any way to cause the icon to appear as a minimized program (center of the toolbar)?

Re: Access to the running task

This does not sound like a WCG problem.

It sounds like there is something wrong with your XP implementation.

I think I understand your symptons. I have never seen this sort of problem.

It sounds like the registry keys may be horsed up as that is where the bits are that control what icons show up in the system tray.

Hopefully someone with a more useful answer will be along soon to help.

Re: Access to the running task

Ken --

If you do not see a miniature of the "V" shaped World Community Grid icon (it looks like stacked blue v's more or less like a US army sergeant's chevron) in the notification area of the system task bar either at the far right of the system task bar (or at the very bottom if you have the task bar oriented vertically). It may be the result of a defect in XP discussed in the forums at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=2447. I also had this problem and the solution which worked for me is that offered by Francesco Saverio Ostuni. You can go directly to the description of his solution at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSystray.htm.

Best regards,

Re: Access to the running task

Thanks for the help. I tried the Ostuni Workaround, and so far, everything looks good!
