Ovarian -> Sarcoma -> Ovarian -> ??

Just trying to get my bearings. I remember years ago we switched from lung to ovarian. Then ovarian was completed and we switched to various sarcomas. Then it seemed there was a backtrack to ovarian to get some more data or look at different targets or something.

Does anyone know when we will actually complete the computational work for ovarian? And then would we go back to finishing sarcoma, or is sarcoma computation completed? I remember discussion on next targets being pancreatic and maybe prostate, but my memory is fuzzy on the details.

Just trying to get clarity on the ovarian-sarcoma-ovarian situation. Thanks!

Dr. @Jurisica :

Sorry to bother you as I know as a PI you're ridiculously busy. Just being super curious if you are willing to share any research plans on the current ovarian targets, the past sarcoma targets (will we switch back to them some day?), and some ideas you would like for future cancer targets.

I understand this old forum software also doesn't allow @mentioning or direct messaging, so I hope you see this sometime in the next few months.

Have a nice day! I hope others are also curious.

@hchc
Put the same question at the contact page: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/viewContactUs.do
And change the "What are you reporting", from "Problem", to "Question".

@Grumpy Swede. Done. Sent a short similar question via that link and also linked to this thread.

Re: Ovarian -> Sarcoma -> Ovarian -> ??

https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg...0&sort=1&rows=100

I did a post hx search on Dr. Jurisica, and he hasn't posted since January 2024 (once), and before that, August 2023. This doesn't give me any reassurance that I'll get any answers to my questions, and honestly, it makes me feel a bit taken for granted as a volunteer. A lot of my friends have science-based PhDs, and they seem to be accessible to their students, researchers, and volunteers.

After first dabbling in distributed.net's RC5-64 project (moo!), I think some of the same team (based in Austin, Texas?) started United Devices. One of the bigger projects there was Human Proteome Folding, Phase 1 using the UD client. Though UD was for-profit, they were linked to grid.org which was non-profit. I was on those forums every day because the PI for the project (iirc he was the PI or maybe just a grad student?) was based in NYU and was VERY active in the forums every day, posting very long posts on the science behind the project. He was super active, and I felt appreciated. That is one of the reasons I stayed with UD/grid.org until it closed and did not immediately join IBM World Community Grid (in 2004?) despite both of them co-running Human Proteome Project Phase 1.

I realize there is a funding issue at WCG, but we're providing 6-7 figures/year of computing power, so I hope I'm not just shouting into a vacuum by expecting more than once every 1.5 years to communicate. I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer, just venting some frustration with the lack of communication. Heck, are there not a bunch of graduate students working in that lab that would post here as well even if Dr. Jurisica is busy? But still, too busy that years go by before a single post?

Edit: I hope this post doesn't come across too abrasive or entitled at all. If so, not my intent. I suppose I just really appreciate updates directly from a project leader, since I'm perhaps spoiled from some other distributed projects, blogs, and forums. I do realize we get science updates a few times per year in the News Section and posted on the Lab website. I guess it would just be super cool for more 2-way conversation to MCM, ARP scientists on the forums that is missing, but maybe that is a big request.

Re: Ovarian -> Sarcoma -> Ovarian -> ??

The Cancer Marker Mapping subproject regularly publishes outcome review reports. Are there any publications in peer-reviewed journals on this work?

I'm curious about this as well.

From this link, we can filter and select "Research Paper" and the project. Here is a link to Help Conquer Cancer (an older project by Dr. Jurisica's lab):
https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/n...amp;sortBy=&pageNum=1

We see 4 entries total: 2008, 2008, 2010, 2012.

So now let's do a search for Mapping Cancer Markers project:
https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/n...amp;sortBy=&pageNum=1

We see zero results. Maybe somebody can do a PubMed search for Jurisica and see if anything comes up? Maybe the WCG website just isn't updated that well. Or maybe there are just no peer-reviewed publications since the project launched in November 2013.

Does https://www.cs.toronto.edu/~juris/jlab/publications.html help in your search? (4 tabs: Patents / Books / Journals / Other)
