"system information" shows 224 MB ram, so does sisandra analayzer, however sisandra also shows "256 MB total RAM". it's an emachine with 1.7 GHz speed Athlon xp 2100+.
does the machine have enough RAM or not? thanks. |

The system requirements are listed at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=minimumreq
FAAH requires 250 MB, so 224 MB falls below the minimum requirements right now. HPF only requires 120 MB. I am coming to the conclusion that HPF runs on an unusually small program for computational biology. I intend to stuff some more RAM in my machines while it is so cheap. |

Hello,
I'm guessing you might have enough. What you are seeing is the difference between how System Information calculates RAM and your actual physical RAM amount installed. I would try to run it (you can log in and select your profile, and select only FAAH to run - this would ensure you would either get a FAAH workunit, or not run anything) myself. This would clear this up and potentially help others who might have the same question :) Thanks, Josh |

Without answering the question, it appears to be borderline. does the machine have enough RAM or not? thanks. It could be that you have graphics on the motherboard, taking 32Mb of memory. A dedicated graphics card would free that up. On the other hand, adding 256 Mb to 1 Gb (if possible) memory in another slot wouldn't hurt either.

Update:
It appears that even though the computer (emachine c2160) comes with 256mb RAM, it will not accept AIDS units. I do not see any sign of graphic cards. I hope this might be of some help. ok i do see something about '3d prosavage slot available'; maybe it is a graphics thing, i'm not very tech savvy ; and the difference above is 32mb, so maybe that is right.
i guess it means some people using older computers may not be able to use those for aids unless they add memory. |

Hello halfcard,
I recently got a Compaq Presario with 512 MB memory that reserves 128 MB for video graphics, so my CPU can only use 384 MB. Still big enough for FAAH, wqhich requires 250 MB. But if you have 256 MB with 32 MB reserved for graphics, then that leaves you with 224 MB for your CPU, which is less than the 250 MB minimum. It is possible that AutoDock will shrink in the coming months, but you might want to think about getting more memory. |
