My main fear, is that with the climate changing so fast nowadays it's not changing faster, we just talk about it more. the change is actually quite linear. I respectfully disagree on that. At least by feedback effects of the different aspects of climate change like e.g. warming ocean surface temperature, melting sea ice , melting permafrost , loss of glacier-ice worldwide, warming atmosphere , resulting rise of humidity in the atmosphere, etc are affecting and accelerating each other. Same for southern oscillation which is becoming so devastating in their results because of the rising influence of different aspects of climate change on global warming.(El Nino) The weakening of the northern oscillation may result in the same way for the southern and aequatorial atlantic , whereas the northern atlantic suffers from results of the increased melting of greenlands iceshield. This may lead to an extreme drop in the natural warming effect of the gulfstream which becomes weaker and will make northern europe climate less pleasant than it is till now. (Gulfstream) Where these different aspects begin to influence and accellerate each other ( which they do knowingly since 5 decades ) they start to race to "tipping points" when a point of no return is reached. E.g. greenland ice shield gets lost. So climate change becomes exponential. https://nsidc.org/learn/ask-scientist/what-are-impacts-arctic-sea-ice-loss https://www.carbonbrief.org/exceptional-antar...low-global-sea-ice-cover/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Ni%C3%B1o%E2%80%93Southern_Oscillation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_Stream To look into it and maybe help the project with becoming better in climate prediction this is the exact way to do it with BOINC. You can connect with the project and do your bit to predict what a mess we have done with earths climate. https://climateprediction.net/ https://www.cpdn.org/cpdnboinc/forum_index.php Because of the higher requirements on hardware and Computer uptime without interruption i would recommend to look in the forum first. Because I'am horrible off Topic i 'd like to add a request for an update on ARP , since CPDN/BOINC is often out of work for most ofus. My PC's urgently need to do some for a better understanding of our climate. [Edit 4 times, last edit by nozi at Apr 23, 2024 12:25:18 PM] |

My main fear, is that with the climate changing so fast nowadays it's not changing faster, we just talk about it more. the change is actually quite linear. I also respectfully disagree. Weather records are being broken on almost a monthly basis, and during my 50+ years tenure on this rock we call planet Earth, I've certaiinly seen evidence myself that the weather pattersn are changing faster and faster each and every year. Up here in Scotland, we're certainly seeing a 'wetter environment' - warmer, but wetter (and as to the last time we had a serious layer of snow fall that didn't melt the next day, I'd have to really 'rack my memory'). With regards to the actual project goals/asperations, I'm now not certain as to how much 'use' they'll be - but, of course, if the project team themselves believe that it's worth "pushing on", then I'll certainly 'help out with the crunching'. If nottihng else, it'll provide a 'point in time' dataset that could be compared to the current/future weather patterns going forward. Currently, I'm stuck at the 3 yrs, 285 day point - and, as with my original goal, I'll aim to round this project off at 5 yrs (I doubt that the project has long enough remaining, for me to reach the next 'round point' of 10 yrs - so, once reached, I'll let others reach 'their goals'). EDIT: I've corrected the slight typo on the number of days my CPU's have crunched (not 385 days - but, in fact 285) ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by gb009761 at May 3, 2024 2:38:22 PM] |

Currently, I'm stuck at the 3 yrs, 385 day point That is an interesting way to designate time. I might have said something like 4 years and 20 days, or maybe just 1480 days (ignoring leap years), but it is still a nice total. Happy crunching. Cheers

Hi Hans Sveen,
We are waiting to receive some final data files from the ARP team and, provided we do not experience any unforeseen complications, we will be able to restart ARP shortly after we receive this data. |
