At the moment it appears they are short of Windows work units, but the supply of Linux work units appears to adequate. My Windows machine will be dry withing the hour.

From the event viewer:
----------------------------------------"World Community Grid | Tasks for NVIDIA GPU are available, but your preferences are set to not accept them" I have now tried three times to change my GPU setting from "No" to "Yes". I keep getting an error report and am told to contact Support. I have now contacted Support three times with no response. I am quickly getting fed up with this inability to make this change. |

@Sgt.Joe
they are short of Windows work units Define Windows work. I know that certain WUs work best on Linux and others on Windows. Is this what you mean that you restrict the WUs to their best platform? |

Is this what you mean that you restrict the WUs to their best platform?I suspect, but can not say for sure, that just as some work units are being configured to run on the android operating system, work units are either configured to run on Windows or on Linux. I do not think the work units are interchangeable. i.e. a Windows configured work unit will not run on Linux and vice versa. Therefore Windows and Linux machines are not drawing from the same schedulers. If I am erroneous in this assumption would someone be kind enough to educate me. This is different from the autodock and (the software used by SCC which I can not remember) where the software for SCC runs much quicker on Linux than Windows. Cheers

Not sure but I believe the situation is that when the first copy is issued, that sets the platform for any other copies. I don't know why.

Not sure but I believe the situation is that when the first copy is issued, that sets the platform for any other copies. Then I can hardly believe the situation below. Copy _2 was handed to a Linux system (seven seconds after initial _1 was issued to a Windows PC), because a Windows PC gave up on initial _0. $ wcgstats -fwrrr= 430927261 -J workunit 430927261 MCM1_0208650_2638_0 MSWin 7 Error 2023-11-27T08:12:48 2023-11-27T08:14:52 0.00/0.00 0.0/0.0Details: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MCM1_0208650_2638_0 MSWin 7 Error 2023-11-27T08:12:48 2023-11-27T08:14:52 0.00/0.00 0.0/0.0 Another workunit where two platforms are involved, but now after one platform had totally given up: workunit 415311035 MCM1_0207332_8006_0 MSWin 11 Error 2023-11-02T17:31:59 2023-11-08T17:32:43 0.00/0.00 0.0/0.0 Adri |

Adri, Mike -- regarding platform targeting:
Interesting find, Adri; strange indeed... If a BOINC system has applications that use platform matching and it is working properly, the second example shows the correct behaviour. If a retry is going out and there are no active tasks (pending or in progress) for that WU, the previous platform choice is not used. As for the first example, I wonder if something happened to persuade the server that the second initial task should be considered cancelled but the client didn't get the message, or whether the jobs were misconfigured in the first place![*1] I note that there's no Error text beyond the client version for all the failed cases. That typically happens when a client sends back a "Not Started by Deadline" -- any other Errors (including validation or missing file errors) usually have some "normal" output! Hence my speculation about due times. Cheers - Al. *1 Sometimes it appears a client gets sent an incorrect due time; I have on occasion received retries where other clients returned almost instantly, some Windows, some Linux :-) |
