Re: Workunits piling up for weeks in "Waiting to be sent" status

I keep getting the 'other platforms' message. Is this a consequence of the 'waiting to be sent' problem?

Re: Workunits piling up for weeks in "Waiting to be sent" status

There are only resends of SCC going out now, so I think that is the cause of the other platforms message. This would happen any time only resends are going out, as more WUs get done by mac/linux machines than windows machines I'm guessing due to the shorter run time on those platforms.

There is also a linux OS match bug that causes more resends to go out for linux as well.

Re: Workunits piling up for weeks in "Waiting to be sent" status

I'm seeing some good news. Over the weekend, new SCC1 work units have stopped going out, but I've been getting resends on all my machines -- resends that were waiting to be sent for 2-4 weeks. I'm completing them and returning them as valid.

Similarly, a portion of my work units that were stuck waiting to be sent have been sent out. Some of them are still stuck. I assume that there must be many thousands in the backlog, so I'll just be patient.

Re: Workunits piling up for weeks in "Waiting to be sent" status

I got some of the resends, but very few of the regular work units. Right now the flow of SCC has just about halted. I only have 7 in progress across 4 machines.
Cheers

Re: Workunits piling up for weeks in "Waiting to be sent" status

There would seem to have been an enormous quantity of stalled retries that we are still working through! Given the number of new WUs available over the last few weeks, it doesn't need a huge percentage of retries to generate many hundreds of thousands of retries :-)

I haven't seen a new work unit for well over 48 hours, and if that's typical (and if the SCC statistics history can be believed) it suggests that there may have been over 500,000 retry tasks returned during that period :-)

And I am still seeing that "committed to other platforms" message more often than not, so I guess there are still big blocks of retries for Windows/MacOS/Android -- Windows users may think the same with Linux/FreeBSD substituted :-)

If we run out of work over the weekend, so be it; if scientists don't send new work, WCG can't release it :-) ... Let's just hope that as/when new work is available it gets released in such a way that we don't get another enormous retry blockage when the initial deadlines fall due :-)

Cheers - Al.

I don't know about you, but I am completely dry of any SCC work units, either retries or new units. i am seeing a fair supply of MCM, with only very few being retries.
Edit: Also I see that the the total amount being returned today of SCC will be about 268,000 or so which is considerably below what it was a few days ago.
Cheers

Haven't gotten any new (_0) SCC1 WUs since Monday, some hosts got a resend or two, some maybe a dozen, only my Mac strangely enough is packed to the brim with _2 and _3 retries all this time.
And now even MCM1 start to run low as well, and still nothing but silence from WCG Towers. sad
