Re: Is WCG up and running?

But it has been a weekend. They don't work weekends so any problems don't get looked at until Monday (TODAY!).

Mike
Well, it's 3pm now in Toronto, that's well even after a generous lunch break and still just crickets...

Beside that this issue started to become obvious, yet again, BEFORE the weekend...

Re: Is WCG up and running?

As has been pointed out elsewhere, Monday the 7th of August, was a Public Holiday in Canada - thus, the reason for the silence.

We were very fortunate (nay, spoilt), when WCG was run/maintained by IBM - as they had the resources to have 24/7/365 cover, and people (such as Kevin Reed), who dialled in/attempted to resolve any issues as and when they arose - no matter what time of day the system became unstable/there were a lack of WU's.

Re: Is WCG up and running?

One good thing about no new WUs this past couple of days, my pile of WUs stuck in Pending Val jail have cleared! ;-)

Re: Is WCG up and running?

Even though things seem to be working now, I am going to wait to see if things go well this weekend before I switch back. You know the old statement about fool me once... blushing

Re: Is WCG up and running?

I've been reading a lot of comments about lack of WUs the past week but my machines have not sat idle. I have other projects turned on but set to no new tasks then I micro manage. I only have health science type projects.

When I feel or see that WCG is running out I set other projects to allow new tasks and see what I get. I use Tn-Grid, Denis, and Rosetta. SiDock is in the mix but as a very last resort because it is a pig (and from Moscow). A pig as in WUs that are 1 day+ on a Ryzen 3900x. Imagine slower CPUs. I control SiDock by playing with app_config.xml.

As an example when I see the queues are low or less than 24 on my 3900x I set project_max_concurrent to a number which will fill the cores. So if at 20 cores running I set to at least 4 then read the config files, set the project to "allow new tasks", and update. 4 come in then set to "no new tasks". This past week I had to set to 24 because there was really nothing all around. When WCG comes back and I have a glut of SiDock I again play with app_config.xml to reduce the numbers of cores SiDock consumes. This is the micro manage part. I look at other factors to decide what to twiddle like due dates.

I could control the others like this but they are like WCG in size. So I don't.

Yes this is a pain but I have these 5 machines and why let them idle.

Tn-Grid is about to start again.
I hope to be able to restart the system with a new project at the beginning of August.

Re: Is WCG up and running?

Dirk

WCG do not work weekends and do not load up enough new work to last until Mondays.

Then we have to wait until at least Monday afternoon in Europe to see more.

Re: Is WCG up and running?

Hi everyone,

The issue of no work unit availability on weekends was brought to the team last week. They are currently working on investigating and fixing this issue.
