I've used the United Devices client from grid.org for over a year with its 10MB memory useage. This client is absorbing memory and I may not be able to keep it around. I't uses 72.5MB for the WCGrid_Rosetta.; 2MB for ud_21380.exe and 3.5MB for UD.EXE. I'm OK with the processing and storage footprints for the World Grid client, but using this much memory seems to me that it is impacting my other applications and causing me to swap memory out to disk on my Windows 2000 machine.
Any suggestions? Michael D. |

From the FAQ:
The grid application seems to be using around 70 MB of memory This project does use approximately that amount of memory and allocates even more in case it is needed for a particular protein. That is why we require machines to have 128MB at a minimum and virtual memory enabled. The amount of memory used should only be a factor in machine with very little memory. You might notice some delays due to paging when the agent is preempted by any other work. The agent runs at lowest CPU priority so that it immediately yields to other work to be done on your PC. If the low memory is a significant problem for your system, consider running the agent only as a screen saver. On the agent, go to the preferences window (the one with the check icon) and select "Run only as Screen Saver" and then click on "Apply". |
