Re: 2023-07-31 Update (MCM1 issue resolved)

Yeah, it seems the SCC1 well is drying up as well. All hosts are barely getting any new WUs, after getting a whole bunch of _3 resends early this morning (PST). Let's just hope its a case of someone forgetting to feed the hopper and not the indication of an impending implosion as several times in the past.... sad

Re: 2023-07-31 Update (MCM1 issue resolved)

I set a 2 day queue on all my WCG boxes. It's reasonable in my opinion. Enough buffer to last short outages or shortages but not enough that I miss the ~6 day deadlines (unless there's a huge outage) or appear greedy.

Re: 2023-07-31 Update (MCM1 issue resolved)

Even with this outage, I am down to only 73 pending validation. 2 day queue seems very reasonable to me.Of course it is the weekend so any news on the outage will wait until at least Monday.
Cheers

Re: 2023-07-31 Update (MCM1 issue resolved)

My take on all these "outages", and problems:

The IBM setup of WCG, is way too complicated for this small and inexperienced Krembil/Jurisica team. They really should take WCG down, and install a "simple" vanilla BOINC system, without all the bells and whistles, which they obviously are not capable of handling.

Then they could come back, and I'm sure WCG would work better. Sure, the original BOINC system, doesn't have the "fancy" webpages, with all stuff on it, but they would probably be able to handle it better than the IBM relatively complicated setup.

Re: 2023-07-31 Update (MCM1 issue resolved)

It's deviated a bit from vanilla BOINC, but I'd imagine the complexity isn't the reason for the outages and other issues but simply lack of funding for enough systems + dedicated, technical resources. Money really does go a long way.
