Welcome aboard!
----------------------------------------Good news is your computer is the one that has to do the hard work here. You just need to update your Device Profile (probably just the Default Profile, but if you've setup others, which you can see on the list on the left at this link, them too) to allow Smash Childhood Cancer tasks to be sent to your devices. WCG will gladly comply, and give your devices some work to do. You'll then start getting badges after a couple days, once the tasks complete and validate. You just need fourteen days of CPU runtime to get your fist badge (like you have for Mapping Cancer Markers). If you've got a multi-core CPU, it'll get multiple days of credit per day (a 16-core/32-thread Ryzen 9 CPU does a full month of runtime a day, or more precisely, 32 days) which speeds up the badges. Welcome again! ![]() |

Many Thanks for the quick reply, i have a Ryzen 7 5700X 8 core CPU and 32gb of RAM. You're welcome! That's a great CPU that will tear through 16 tasks at a time, helping you earn badges all the quicker :) They've apparently paused SCC tasks for now (and I'm seeing similar results for my devices) but hopefully they're back out soon and you can start to crunch some. ![]() |

Hi,I'm new here and would like to know what you got to do to get your Smash Childhood Cancer badge. Many thanks guys and gals. Well, plain and simple, WCG Towers need to get their act together...Any WU you might have received and returned after the recent outage (if you were lucky enough that they uploaded and reported in the first place) have for the most part simply not validated, as "pending validation" WUs keep piling up every since new WUs were send out again yesterday after yet another unplanned outage without any word from WCG Towers. And even if they would have been validated (some strangely enough do), it doesn't seem as if stats (definitely external, probably internal ones as well) aren't properly running (at least not at the time they usually do). All of this will prevent any potential new badge from showing up (the first one would be for 14 days of CPU time,so having any fast CPU won't do actually do much good here, only a larger number of concurrent tasks running)... Ralf is a bit pessimistic. Any work you do should eventually get credited - but not necessarily immediately.
I assume that you are crunching to help the research rather than just to collect badges. Be aware that work can be available intermittently, so choose a backup project from the many available from BOINC. Mike |

I'm only interested in helping research, not concerned about badges, I just wanted to know how many crunchers here got there badges but many thanks
Mike for the advice, much appreciated. |

Ralf is a bit pessimistic. Any work you do should eventually get credited - but not necessarily immediately. Am I?If after almost a year, you have nothing that indicates that credit from the first 3 months are ever going to be credited, I would rather call it "realistic"... And it seems that after the latest crash&burn, validation and credit doesn't seem to working right. And that applies not only to external stats... Ralf |
