ARP storage update

The ARP team is in the process of moving their data from SURF, a collaborative organization for IT in Dutch education and research, to a cloud service.

Re: ARP storage update

Thanks for the update.

I'm glad to hear that they have something in train to re-home the data, but I note the lack of any clue as to when the move will be completed and work can start to flow again.

If that information is available but just didn't make the report, could you please share it? That said, I can understand if Delft didn't want to offer something that would only be a guess :-)

Cheers - Al.

Re: ARP storage update

Yes, thanks for the update.

In it, it said that the current data will be transformed into files that'll be of a more 'user friendly' format - will this need to be done before we're able to start crunching again, or as soon as the data space issue is resolved (perhaps, even before all the data is moved over to its new storage location)?

Re: ARP storage update

Thank you for the update. I would be interested to know what transfer rate per second the data can be transferred to the cloud. I am aware there will be limiting factors either SSD speed or bandwidth at the cloud and whether data is stored will most likely be contributing factors

Re: ARP storage update

TigerLily, would it be possible for you to provide us with an update on the storage situation?

ARP folks were hanging out at the bar and they met the HSTB devs at the counter. They then became best friends, never looking back...

Or something like that. When an admin for a distributed computing project says the current ammount of computing is ideal, when the answer is supposed to be "we can make use of A LOT more", you know things are in dire straits.

Re: ARP storage update

Hi Speedy51,

We are currently preparing a newsletter with an update from the ARP team on storage. This will be sent out by the end of the month, likely sooner.

Re: ARP storage update

They probably already started the move, which would explain why my work cloud server has been absurdly slow starting Monday. wink

Cheers coffee
