I brought back online an existing WCG device that's been crunching for years. It hasn't crunched since 2022 however.
----------------------------------------OS: Windows 10 Pro 22H2 App: BOINC Manager 7.16.11 Right now it's only downloading maybe 0.5 day of tasks, but I'd like it to download 1 day or 2 days. I can't for the life of me figure out why it's artificially saying it's full when it's not.

I'm not seeing this issue on my laptop or desktop. Did you start it today? Maybe wait a day or so and see if it improves.

I started it a couple days ago, and I've also waited until it had 10+ "Valid" results just to make sure it's marked as a "Reliable" client again. (It has 39 valid.) I've also restarted BOINC a couple times and also re-run the CPU benchmarks.
----------------------------------------I can fake it out and set the buffer to 4 days, and it'll download a few more tasks, but it's still less than 1 day of work total. I hope it normalizes over the next day or so because this is confusing.

I hope it normalizes over the next day or so because this is confusing. I noticed after the crash a couple of mine did that too when things were first coming back. They'd get only a few more WUs than logical CPUs, but the number crept up slowly over a period of a couple days until they're back to normal now, and grabbing a couple days of work to hold. ![]() |

@Aperture_Science_Innovators, thanks. Good to know.

I hope it normalizes over the next day or so because this is confusing. BOINC not only calculates how much cache you want, but also how often BOINC is running.Since it was down for over a year your uptime (also known as ON_fraction) is extremely low. It will improve when you let run it several days 24/7. |

See, that's what's confusing. Comparing apples to apples, let's take two of my Desktops.
----------------------------------------Desktop 1 can get the full cache, whether it's 1 day or 2 days. Desktop 2 can only get maybe 1/4 day of cache. Both desktops have been crunching WCG again for the past week. Both had a history of 24/7 WCG usage. So it's weird that Desktop 1 can get the full cache but Desktop 2 cannot, even after it's been running 24/7 the past week. I'll try to search for "ON_fraction" in client_state.xml or wherever it might be.

I'll try to search for "ON_fraction" in client_state.xml or wherever it might be. Example from client_state.xml:<time_stats> <on_frac>0.214976</on_frac> To let BOINC think you was running 24/7 all the time, just stop BOINC manager AND BOINC client and you may set on_frac to 0.999999 Restart BOINC after your adjustment. |

That worked!
----------------------------------------Desktop 1's on_frac was 0.99___ Desktop 2's on_frac was 0.34___ I changed it to 0.99 and everything is back to normal. What's weird is that machine was on 24/7 just as much as the other, so who knows why they differed so much.

..., so who knows why they differed so much. Just guessing: Desktop 1 had running BOINC all the time and Desktop 2 didn't. |
