Jurisica: While it is not perfect – we are making a progress and the Grid with 62,751 devices actively contributing over the last month and producing 3,340,603 run time days contributing to science in that period is much better than Grid closed by the end of 2021. I think you should check again. The cumulative monthly runtime is surely not better than it was before the grid closed. It's about half the runtime it was before: https://www.wcgsig.com/runtime_global.html I may be presumptuous, but I think Dr. Jurisica meant to write the following: While it is not perfect – we are making (a) some progress and with the Grid with 62,751 devices actively contributing over the last month and producing 3,340,603 run time days contributing to science in that period is much better than if Grid had closed by the end of 2021. The blue item should be omitted and the red items added. If this is in error I apologize. Cheers
Sgt. Joe

Dear all – thank you for the comments and suggestions. Well received. We do try to increase the communications, but I rather not post than just post for the sake of posting. Too much of that on social media and unfortunately news channels too. Sorry, but it should be possible to at least acknowledge problems when they arise. A lot of times, it seems on this end as if the technical folks at WCG/Krembil are becoming aware of those things just days later (like after this weekend) and might leisurely go about fixing things. Most of us that are still here (and lot of of long time contributors have already left) don't expect that things get fixed in an instant, but then most of us don't appreciate to get the mushroom treatment either... (thanks Sgt.Joe )Technical side of the Grid – we are making some progress – but still, it feels like trying to fit F1 engine into Fiat 500 chassis (no disrespect to the classic Italian design). We had to rebuild the back end to fit the hardware constraints we live with – and we still discover some strange behaviour (e.g., the recent drying out of WUs, while we had them ready due to automation). We do not have hardware that would match cloud setup used before – but we continue to look for funding or partners that could help us there (note: we do not have budget to run cloud going forward either). Well, this is were I strongly disagree. I still have a hard time believing that the scope of this project (WCG as a whole) were not obvious when the transition was announced back in September 2021. You were beating the PR drum quite well, also in regards to new science project. And for this, there is very little to show for. After the physical transition, you were pretty quick to announce that WCG would be back up and running (I can spend some time to search for that post from Cyclops), but 9 months are the rather soft relaunch, there have been barely two consecutive weeks of the project running smoothly with what is available. Yes, most of us are aware that not all project that should be active are actually providing work. And I am not talking about the fact that no new projects are showing up. With the current state of affairs, this would rather increase the chaos that already reigns.I think a lot of the problems here are organizational in nature, not only down to lack of funding and technical resources Automation of processes doesn't mean that those don't need to be monitored. And with all the stuff that has gone majorly wrong, This thread was started about improving communications from the project. It doesn't require a "full-time communications professional" to spend a few minutes a day to keep up to date (and in appropriate places). And not just platitudes but honest statements. I (and I am sure a lot of the regulars) rather appreciate a honest, timely reply/acknowledgement about what is going on. Dealing with all the issues, in the way you/Krembil/WCG do in the year that has passed now since the shutdown can't bode well for the reputation of Krembil and thus the possibility of getting more funds and interest new projects of running under the WCG roof... Thank you Sgt Joe for red correction - reads better.

DATE Social Media 30-day members 30-day devices new users run time 4 weeks run time 1 week That isn't readable, you can use the CODE tag to format tables (I hope I did a good work, otherwise correct it.
