Hello, guys!
----------------------------------------I honestly want to help World Community Grid and, especially, Mapping Cancer Markers, to complete all the possible tasks to find the cure for all types of cancer or, at least, to help in its treatment. Right now I am using a Galaxy A52s 5G (Snapdragon 778G) and it takes between 1:30 - 3 hours to complete one task. Not bad for a phone but I want something more powerful to just use for WCG and MCM. I found on the Internet a Mini PC HP Prodesk 600 G4, Intel Core i5 8500T, 16GB RAM, SSD 512GB. What do you think, guys? Is it a good starter computer? The processor seems powerful enough. The GPU (Intel UHD 630) is extremely basic, though. What exactly would be a great computer for WCG and MCM? Any comment, opinion, point of view, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! If you can get that one pretty cheap, I would say go for it. MCM does not use much memory, so 16gb is way more than sufficient. If you don't like it, you can always turn around and sell it.

With such a small form factor, heat might be an issue if you want to run all 6 cores (or even 4?). You could run it with the case off which might help cooling. The other thing that might be an issue, if this is the PC:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-prode...341202/document/c06057132 is the power supply. I'm not sure how a 65W power supply would work in distributed computing if one wanted to run tasks on several cores? |
