Attach Error: Exited with error code -113

Everytime I try to attach with v. 5.25 running I get this error code. It immediately resets the project. I have tried running the -attach_project option from the command line as well as trying to attach through boincmgr. Any ideas?

This sounds like you are unable to resolve the hostname of http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ It sounds like you don't have your nameserver setup properly. Please try two things,

A) Check to see if you visit http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ using your browser on your linux box.

B) ping worldcommunitygrid.org the output should give you something back similar to this...
"PING worldcommunitygrid.org (129.33.89.133) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from www.worldcommunitygrid.org (129.33.89.133): icmp_seq=0 ttl=235 time=41.3 ms"

Please tell us if this passes or fails.

Aelbric,

I believe that the -113 message is what appears when you are using a version of the BOINC client that does not support SSL. Please upgrade to version 5.2.6 and retry.

thanks,
Kevin

Updated to 5.2.6. Clean install no help.

I am connecting through an authenticating proxy. My client_state.xml appears to have the proper settings and authentication. Still no dice.

Re: Attach Error: Exited with error code -113

Side note: I was able to attach to another project with no trouble using the command line. For WCD, I tried both ./boinc -attach_project http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org [key] and ./boinc -attach_project www.worldcommunitygrid.org [key] with no change.

Re: Attach Error: Exited with error code -113

More information. I was able to connect a different Linux box to the project and it is crunching along happily.

I just realized that the machine that was able to connect successfuly is behind a transparent proxy. The machine that I cannot get connected is behind an authenticating proxy. This is the only difference I can find between the two. Is there an issue with connecting through authenticating proxies? Perhaps due to the use of SSL?

Again, the machine behind the authenticating proxy is having no trouble connecting to other BOINC projects so I know the 5.2.6 client is capable of communicating to the outside. Anyone have any other suggesstions?

Re: Attach Error: Exited with error code -113

Final note. The machine behind the authenticating proxy was connecting fine pre-5.x.x. Now that it is running 5.2.6, it cannot connect to that other project either though it is crunching the workunit it managed to download.

Generating a new error code too now in both projects. Error 500. Looks like although the proxy settings are correct (verified in both boincmgr and the client_state.xml file), 5.2.6 is not attempting to forward requests to the proxy correctly. Where is the appropriate area to report this?

So long as any user has 5.2.6 or higher it will work on WCG 5.2.6 was brought out so that it could support and run WCG

Re: Attach Error: Exited with error code -113

aelbric,

On the linux box that is not working try the following:

wget http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc/wcg_cgi/fcgi

and then try

wget https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc/wcg_cgi/fcgi

and let us know what you get the same thing for both. I am wondering if the proxy doesn't handle https traffic.

thanks,
Kevin
