Difference between OPN1 and OPNG ?

OPN1 tasks on my computer are completed after about 1:45 hrs while OPNG are completed in less than 2 minutes.

From the scientific value, is there a difference between the OPN1 and OPNG tasks? Do they provide the same or comparable results?

Hi GolfSierra, the basic difference is OPN1 uses CPU and OPN1-GPU (OPNG) uses GPU for its results. As described in this article , GPU calculations use an updated docking algorithm and thus provide more accurate results, and also some speedup in average. Also, since GPU has many more cores compared to CPU it does run faster.

Much faster. My Intel i9-10850K running at 4.9GHz runs a task in about 2 hours 25 minutes. My Nvidia Titan X running at 1.5GHz runs a task in less than 2 minutes. (I run five tasks concurrently in a little over five seven minutes.) A CPU task earns about 100 points (twenty tasks concurrently for 2000 points), and a GPU task earns about 1,000 points.

Similar difference here, though on much older hardware.

However, there's no OPNG tasks since at last a week and i wonder, if there are any plans posted anywhere, announcing future schedule for OPNG WUs.

Re: Difference between OPN1 and OPNG ?

I've got an old GTX-750 GPU in a 20-thread i9-10850k machine. OPNG easily outperforms all 20 of the CPU threads combined, based on points earned. The difference would be really huge on a bog standard 4-core machine. Bring 'em on!

Re: Difference between OPN1 and OPNG ?

Will there be OPNG work units again?
