When i tried to open https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ from Moscow it was loading for 16.1 minutes. When you address this maybe you can also replace news feed pictures with small thumbnails?

The website is very slow. Not region-specific.

When you address this maybe you can also replace news feed pictures with small thumbnails? Yes I wanted to complain about this a while ago but thought the admins may have other priorities. But since someone else mentioned it, I'll agree. As an example the scc_update_child_in_cape.png is 1,600px × 900px but really shows up as scaled to 258px × 145px It weighs in at 2.18 Mb. If I save that to 300x169 I can get it to 63.5 Kb If I save it as a jpg I can get it to 10.4Kb Let's do some maths and figure out how much bandwidth is wasted and thus how long to fill the front page from scratch. Yes if it is in you cache it will not be that long. What are those odds of being in the cache. There are 7 images on the front page. I'll volunteer to do them all to jpg making them as tight as I can without or as little loss as possible. [Edit 2 times, last edit by BobbyB at Oct 1, 2022 9:42:01 PM] |

16 mins? It's long despite everything... A trick from Vlad the Impaler?
----------------------------------------(OK, no politics... But the stick was holded out... Impossible to resist... Deep down, wouldn't that be what he wanted to hear?) *It's ok, I've already left* Edit: Before I get censored or rotted, note the humorous trait.. Another nickname of Vlad III, Drăculea (meaning "son of the dragon" in medieval Romanian), was taken up by Bram Stoker to name the literary character of the vampire count Dracula. Yes if it is in you cache it will not be that long. What are those odds of being in the cache. I take that backOn the image file I mentioned, the cache is set to 15 minutes. The file has a date of 28 Sep 2022. So the chances of it being in the browser cache is near zero. I presume the cache to be the same for all images. I did the experiment: closed my browser (my cache stays intact) then connect again and it's like molasses on a cold Nunavik day in Quebec. scc_update_child_in_cape.png Last-Modified: Wed, 28 Sep 2022 21:25:54 GMT Cache-Control: max-age=900 Content-Type: image/png <humour> Maybe people who put up websites should be forced to use a 56Kbps modem to test them....16 minutes would sound like nothing. Does anyone even remember dial-up modems? Jack H: did you expect something else than a cold Nunavik day ? </humour> [Edit 3 times, last edit by BobbyB at Oct 3, 2022 4:44:08 PM] |

It is very slow from everywhere.
----------------------------------------Krembil seems to like vintage, bringing memories back from the 56 Kbps time: The only thing is that it is not only annoying but fully counterproductive. Officially announcing that WCG is formally restarted is under such conditions a very bad joke. Cheers, Yves |

Cheers, Yves I still have the download problem, but at least the connection seems normal as far as speed goes. I agree the announcement so premature it was like announcing a college graduation when a person starts first grade. Cheers

Just came here to echo the need to compress the website images down both in pixel size and file size. Multiple images weighing in at multiple MBs in size is just absolutely crushing the small amount of bandwidth dedicated to the website.
Surprised to see things in this state after receiving the announcement email that everything was back online. Sounds like I should wait a while before rejoining this project. Hope you all are able to make more progress soon. |

It's a small one (119 kb), but the image from the "Sharing" section of the My Contribution page honestly takes up a lot of space and really isn't necessary, in my opinion. Remove it and it's a bit less scroll on that page.
