I uninstalled BOINC and reinstalled it from WCG for Ubuntu 22.04. Still doesn't work. I used the terminal commands, and when it got to opening it to choose WGC, that's where it wouldn't work.

If the WCG option is not there, you may have to supply the URL yourself. I have run into this problem before, but don't know why it sometimes and not others.

I have multiple UBUNTU 22.04 machines and boincmgr 7.18.1 runs on some but not all. I have concluded 7.18.1 only works on "newer" machines. I suspect 7.18.1 uses some "new" machine instruction available on newer CPU's but not "older" CPU's.
The fix is to install version 7.16.17. I don't know how to do that except to copy boinc, boincmgr, and boinccmd from a working 7.16.17 machine to /usr/bin/ on the non-working machine. Make sure all are set to execute. Also, in Synaptic, mark (lock) all three to not upgrade. |
