This project seems to have changed its URL. http not https?

I am getting the BOINC notice, "This project seems to have changed its URL. When convenient, remove the project, then add http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/"

I have seen other posts saying to ignore a similar message, but not the same, so I am asking should this also be ignored?

In any event, when can we safely assume that BOINC WCG notices have any value and should not be ignored?

And is there really no way of preventing spurious notices that confuse?

If the message is correct, am I to presume that WCG has regressed from https to http?

Re: This project seems to have changed its URL. http not https?

I am getting the BOINC notice, "This project seems to have changed its URL. When convenient, remove the project, then add http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/"

Reading the recent July 21, 2022 Update/FAQ, this could be the cause:
"your ability to remove the project may be compromised by the use of an account manager. The project must be attached to BOINC and not an external account manager such as Science United."

In any event, when can we safely assume that BOINC WCG notices have any value and should not be ignored?

Good question. Using your common sense, always ask yourself: "Did I do something that's causing this message to show up?" and then try to find answers to your question.

Re: This project seems to have changed its URL. http not https?

I have not changed anything. Maybe WCG has - that is what is suggested by the notice: "This project seems to have changed its URL", and not "You seem to have changed your record of the project's URL."

Besides, had I changed the URL I would not be posting asking for help on here. I'd just change it back.

Is there anybody who can tell me, in the first instance, whether WCG is now only using http, rather than https, which it was previously, before the move?

If, additionally, anyone can help with the other questions in my OP, that would be very kind.

Re: This project seems to have changed its URL. http not https?

Thanks for the pointer to the FAQ. The project, in my case, is attached to BOINC, and I don't use an account manager.

Re: This project seems to have changed its URL. http not https?

There was a configuration issue for a time that used https in the URL instead of http. As I understand it, WCG never used https. In my personal case, I was using an old version of the BOINC client anyway, so I just removed it and installed the latest version (7.20.2) and when I did that, the error went away, probably because my local configuration got updated as part of the client upgrade.

I installed the new boinc version (7.20.2) yesterday and am still getting the "This project seems to have changed its URL" error.

Best to just ignore it.

I've tried to Remove and Re-attach. Unfortunately, the Remove button is greyed and for WCG cannot be pressed. I am running BOINC 7.20.2.

Best to report it at the BOINC forums.

A greyed out Remove button for a project in the Boinc manager simply means that you have attached to that project with an account manager, (for example: Science United, BAM, GRCPool), and must detach with that account manager, and not with the Boinc manager.
