Hello,
Just noticed that in my notices I have this message: Your settings do not allow fetching tasks for NVIDIA GPU. To fix this, you can change Project Preferences on the project's web site. Fri 22 Jul 2022 16:12:17 BST Only problem is that I cannot see where on the web site I need to change this. Thanks! Paul. |

I don't think the web preferences are working right now. I just changed my settings locally by switching to the "advanced view" in the BOINC client, then selecting "Options -> Computing Preferences" from that view.

Go to the WCG website.
----------------------------------------Open 'My contribution' at the top of the screen or click 'My contribution' at the bottom of the webpage. Click 'Devices'. Click 'Device manager'. You are now at the Device management page. Now find your device, presumably by changing 'in the last 7 days' into 'anytime (all devices)' of the 'Installed/Registered Device:' field, then clicking the Refresh button. Locate your device and follow the procedure. (Suppose you clicked the 'school' profile.) While in the school profile, tick Custom Profile, - presto - more options are showing up, then scroll down and find Graphics Card Usage. Behold! The system is still in an experimental state. Not everything is functioning properly yet. Please wait till the WCG system is fully functional! [Edit 1 times, last edit by adriverhoef at Jul 22, 2022 4:50:23 PM] |

Okay, just went to Device Management. Bad news, no devices seen. But it can see the devices under the Overview display - very strange. I'm using Google Chrome under Linux, so I tried Firefox, just for giggles, but I get exactly the same result. Os is Linux Mint 20.3.
S, I have gone into local preferences, set GPU on all the time, and it is still not working. At this point I will try uninstalling and re-installing... Don't know what else to do. Thanks for your help, Paul. |

rvsjimbo - don't know how to say it more plainly... The system is in a test mode right now. Wait until the system is fully functional. There is no problem on your end. This messing with profiles is pointless. JUST WAIT. DO NOTHING.

Okay, just went to Device Management. Bad news, no devices seen. That was to be expected. Why? Because everybody doesn't have any devices at the moment if you go to Device Management and look at it like that. That's why my instructions didn't stop at that point.(*1) Also, if you have come this far reading this message, I'd rather see you'd follow Unixchick's advice to DO NOTHING. But if you still feel adventurous about the current state of the system, who can stop you? There is a footnote. Here it is: [*1] So, if you stopped following my directions at that point, you won't get any further, you will be stuck there without any devices. If you want to get any further, go back to my message, find the phrase "Now find your device" and continue from there. Hope to hear if my instructions there are unclear and if so, how they can be improved. [Edit 2 times, last edit by adriverhoef at Jul 22, 2022 9:56:29 PM] |

A word of caution regarding management of expectations!...
----------------------------------------What no-one has mentioned here is that the WCG folks reported some problems getting the GPU tasks sent out to users and I've not noticed them saying they have solved that yet... So even though they probably have generated work units for OPNG it seems they haven't been able to make them available -- and there are no recent posts about new OPNG task numbers in the "What's the highest batch you have received (GPU OPNG ONLY)?" thread in the Open Pandemics forum, which tends to confirm that :-) So anyone expecting to suddenly get GPU work once they've sorted out their profiles might be disappointed at present (and that's assuming that the profile changes stick and are noticed at the moment -- that may be another problem area they're looking into...) Cheers - Al. [Edit 1 times, last edit by alanb1951 at Jul 23, 2022 12:07:04 AM] |
