The issue is not limited to ARP. I have three stalled MCM1 downloads.

If I have patience, they all resolved. I pressed retry a couple of times and some more came down. It then said backoff 4 hours or so, so I went out to dinner. When I got back, it said there was about a half hour to go, so I just waited and two African Rain got everything. Since then, one of those completed, and the other has some time still to go.

I suspect a bandwidth problem at the Krembil end. One problem with the downloads is that if you are trying to download a number of ARP1 units, it doesn't do 1 unit at a time. It can be any of the files needed for any of the units.
You can't start a unit until all the files for that unit have downloaded. Mike |

I'm seeing this problem also. For tasks that won't start until all input files are downloaded, I tell my computer to participate in several BOINC projects, and I rarely see all of them at once having no tasks available. It tends to take several hours for each ARP task to download all of its input files and start.
----------------------------------------Does Krembil need to add more servers for doing the file downloads? Do they need more bandwidth for their internet connections? Or are many tasks sent out before some of their input files are ready to download? Note that if several tasks sent to the same computer need the same input file, BOINC is able to recognize this and download only one copy and provide that copy to all of the tasks that need it. Do the time limits for the ARP tasks start when the lists of input files are downloaded, rather than when all input files on the list have been downloaded? That would explain why some of the tasks previously in No Reply status sometimes finish and cause server aborts for some of the other tasks for the same workunits.

Deadlines are indeed based on when the request for work is satisfied -- once the list is downloaded the main server knows no more about the tasks sent until the client contacts the server with changed task status information...So yes, some of what I call "late returners" could well have been held up by download issues but I suspect there are far more that are held up by [slightly?] excessive work cache sizes! Cheers - Al. P.S. Unless it's a sleep period, I tend to watch downloads and expedite them if I can, so I don't tend to get bitten much by this; I have, however, disabled OPN1/OPNG for now as they seem to be the major cause of download problems, as well as being the most labour-intensive to clear! |

I am still seeing downloads stalled...project backing off It happens with all projects, with ARP1 it is just bad due to the relative short run time, specially when it is a resend (which for obvious reasons happens a lot) and when it might take two days on a host that you can't babysit, it might flagged as being returned too late.As well as the main site is very very slow. Hopefully, they will fix this in the coming week(s)...  Ralf |
