Hello,
Just reaching out to anyone who may be able to tell me why my device list has been deleted and as a result I am unable to process any new work. Any help is appreciated. |

Hello, Just reaching out to anyone who may be able to tell me why my device list has been deleted It's not deleted. and as a result I am unable to process any new work. Nope, it's the other way around. Since you haven't processed any new work in the past few months, just like anyone else here at the moment, your devicelist looks empty, because for any device to show up in your devicelist it needs to have returned at least one task in the past 2 weeks … by default. You haven't, we also didn't, so the default list is empty. But wait! Question: Have you processed and returned any tasks in the past year? Yes? Then try this. Does it show any devices? If this is true, then your devicelist may yield some results after all. It's just a matter of adjusting some parameters. Now try it for yourself at your devicelist, adjust 'Last result returned' by changing its value into 'anytime (all devices)' and see what happens. Or click the download logo at the right hand side on that page to download a list of all your registered devices … ever. |

why my device list has been deleted and as a result I am unable to process any new work. Alternatively, you don't need the URL, just click on Install Date then select 'Anytime'. There is no work. See one of the dozen threads asking about it... Cheers, Yav |

Thanks for the information.
I followed the suggestions and the Device List and previous work data appeared. I thought because I couldn't see the list I could not receive any new work. . |

Thanks for the information. So you could not be bothered to check on any of the other threads to see what is up with no new WUs? I followed the suggestions and the Device List and previous work data appeared. I thought because I couldn't see the list I could not receive any new work. . ![]() Ralf ![]() |

Thanks Yav, it would have been helpful if the administrators had clearly explained the situation on the home page. I did write to them before posting but no reply.
Also, I've never seen any explanation as to why IBM has stopped administering WCG because it seemed to be working quite well. |

It was noted some time back that the support from IBM was minimal. Everybody assumed because it had the IBM brand that IBM was all in. In reality, IBM never provided any significant resources except perhaps early in the life of WCG.
My guess is they just didn't want to put any further devotion of resources to the project. They have been focusing on cloud computing and divesting itself of pretty much everything else. It's possible WCG was linked in with one of its divisions it sold off. Or WCG doesn't bring in the publicity it once did, so.... Sony was in with Folding@home in developing a PS3 client and then stopped supporting in. Then they came in and had a Folding Android client (although it wasn't linked in with the main stats). Then they decided to abandon that too... Once things settle in with Krembil, they might be more responsive to donors suggestions and requests then it was with IBM...we'll see though... |

Interesting. Certainly the old grid.org days had problems but once IBM took over it seemed to run fairly smoothly, at least from my perspective. Still, if their business priorities now lay elsewhere then it's probably best that a new administrator take over. IBM was and still is, by far, the largest contributor.
----------------------------------------One issue I have noticed is that the site is a lot slower to load now compared to when IBM was running it. Perhaps, that is because it was run from California which is located on a major internet hub rather than Toronto. [Edit 1 times, last edit by davethebuilder at Jul 3, 2022 12:01:53 PM] |

No apparent degradation in service. Cheers
