I had an email on the 10th at 04:23 (not sure if UTC or US time).
----------------------------------------" Dear volunteer, Thank you for your continued support of the World Community Grid while we move to our new home at the Krembil Research Institute. We’re now getting ready to transfer data and begin the final stress-testing of the servers. To ensure we can focus on the final phase of the migration fully, and that we do not negatively impact research and volunteers, we will gracefully stop work units on February 14, and pause the work and forums until mid April. Volunteers do not need to take any specific action, as your devices will automatically stop receiving or sending work units during this time. We will keep a simplified website online, to ensure we can share progress with you, and to provide additional information during this final phase of transition. We appreciate your support, and look forward to working with you on finishing existing projects and working on the new ones. Sincerely, The World Community Grid TEAM – Together Everyone Accomplishes More" Paul.
Paul.

These kind of news are also posted to the Notices tab in the Boinc Manager. How people can miss it, when it is posted to the mail, posted on this forum, and posted in the Boinc Manager tab, is beyond my understanding.
----------------------------------------To put it bluntly: Must be a total "set and forget". That of course means that the "set and forget" participants, isn't really interested in taking part of how the projects are doing, and what (if any) results comes out of the different projects. So, nobody can blame the WCG team for this. They've done what they can to inform about the outage. If people doesn't pay attention to what is going on with WCG, then there's nobody they can blame but themselves, [Edit 5 times, last edit by Grumpy Swede at Feb 16, 2022 11:28:39 PM] |

I received no news of this via the app and the Krembil forum is an insult in that it is hidden away on the site and once you get there, there is no indication of this pretty major piece of news.
----------------------------------------After having done this work for two decades I feel really insulted to have to discover this information this way. If you don't see me again you'll know why... Crunching in memory of my Mum PEGGY, cousin ROPPA and Aunt AUDREY. |

Seems like I have opted all of the In-App Notifications. Maybe this shut down is informed via e-mail. Regardless of that, normally major news and even lots of less important news have been posted. It's no wonder that this news doesn't reach users (crunchers), since it is not posted. Though there seems to be nothing users can do about this, at least delivering this news could have prevented them from worrying and seeking a way to make receiving tasks continue.

It was certainly sent out as an "In-App Notifications". I have it in the Notices tab on all of my computers Boinc Manager.
----------------------------------------It was also posted twice in this forum. Once in the "Official Messages/News" section, and once in the "Official Messages/We're Moving to Krembil Research Institute!" section Both those threads have plenty of replies in them also. Notifications *should* have sent if System Updates or Program News remained opted in. (iirc, they're by default, and have to be turned off) whether by email or in-app notifications. |

Came here to check the puzzling lack of WUs, but all is well I suppose. Good luck with the migration!
