Re: OPN1 WU memory leaks?

Is there any estimates when the problem would be fixed? It seems that without CPU units, my intel laptops cannot download GPU WUs either

Are they doing any other projects (ARP or MCM)? Then you should be able to download OPNG.

If you don't really want to do them, just set your profile to a maximum of 1 MCM. That is much quicker than ARP and so would request new work more often.

Re: OPN1 WU memory leaks?

I now have 3 units from batches 0063600, 0063610 & 0063616. 2 of them have unit numbers in the thousands.

These are resends for no reply from before problems started.

Re: OPN1 WU memory leaks?

The current OPN1 WU size makes more or less impossible for Raspberry Pi (RPi) with 1GB RAM to concurrently run more than 2 WUs without starting to swap.
Cheers,
Yves

Re: OPN1 WU memory leaks?

I am able to run 4 concurrently (without clearing memory by suspend during the run)
on two 2GB RAM laptops with Win10, just because the tasks are running in cascade:
Task -------------- Progress - Virtual - Memory
OPN1_0075388_00276_0 95.802% 451.03 MB 353.25 MB
OPN1_0075959_00407_0 56.502% 335.22 MB 238.17 MB
OPN1_0075964_00458_0 24.804% 235.83 MB 132.31 MB
OPN1_0075528_00406_1 04.202% 176.09 MB 072.13 MB

Re: OPN1 WU memory leaks?

because the tasks are running in cascade

Since the tasks do not have always the same duration, "cascading" is very close to lottery. It will run well as long as no task will not be significantly shorter or longer.
As mentioned, on Raspberry Pi with only 1 GB RAM (what was sufficient since the start of OPN1 project) it is not really recommended to concurrently compute more than 2 WUs (instead of 4).
Cheers,
Yves

Re: OPN1 WU memory leaks?

I have several headless RaspberryPi running OpenPandemics-Covid19 and recently noticed that all are having problems completing the work. One has an 8GB card that is now completely filled. Two others show that two processes ("rsyslogd" and "systemd-j+") that are taking 20-40 percent of CPU use, significantly slowing the computers' operation.

Are these problems due to the recently reported "OPN1 WU memory leak"? Does the memory leak still exist and, if so, what can I do to make these Raspberry Pi's successfully run OpenPandemics again? Previously, all were working fine with the OPN1 project.

Thank you for help.

Yes and yes. The problem is reduced by packing only 20 jobs within one task instead of >60 up to 130.

The only way to work around is to free memory now and then by suspending tasks or suspend the WCG-project for a short moment and resume.
Untick in BOINC's preferences "Leave non-GPU tasks in memory while suspended".
With boinccmd you could create a script to suspend the project for 10 or 20 seconds and resume thereafter every hour or so

Re: OPN1 WU memory leaks?

Thank you, Crystal Pellet, for the suggestion to untick non-GPU tasks in memory. I've made that change to all the RPi's.

What about changing the Preferences for "Page/swap file use" to something less than the default 75 percent? Would that help in this case?

Less? I've set it to 90% on my crunchers.
