A complaint to the [REDACTED] who seem to have been the designers of the new website.
----------------------------------------You use colour/shade combinations that are hard to read by people like me who have visual impairment. The IBM version used BLACK text against white, not the new grey text. USE BLACK!!! In most places, the grey font is larger than on the previous website, but it looks slightly fuzzy, while previously the font was smaller but really crisp and easy to read. Then in the menu block at the top of this page ( Index | Recent Threads | ... ) you have black text against a dark grey background, and I strain to read it because there is too little contrast between the two shades. When you use black text, put it against a light background colour such as white or yellow. If you want a dark background, use light-coloured text, eg white or yellow. And don't use light text against light backgrounds. Written by someone who's more than 20 years old. Yes, some people do survive that long, and (gasp!) some last even longer. This has nothing to do with Krembil. This was designed by IBM and, as caitilarkin has stated, the change was already planned before the move was even a possibility.
----------------------------------------If you go to ibm.org you'll see it's the same design. AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

Three points regarding this post:
1. Thank you for mentioning an issue regarding volunteers with visual impairment. We conducted usability testing prior to the release, but we we're going specifically revisit the issue of text color. 2. I had to redact a personal insult in your post, which violated forum rules. Any further violations could jeopardize your posting privileges. 3. As I've posted elsewhere today, this website was created before we knew that World Community Grid was moving anywhere, and long before Krembil took legal ownership of the program. |

The grey background of the menu bar at the top of these forum pages ("Index | Recent Threads | ...") has been made lighter
![]() It's much easier to read. Thanks. The text in the forum is nice and black, but there's lots of grey text still on the site :( Maybe the huge pictures on the site home page look OK on a phone, but they don't work well on a computer, where one has to scroll past the displayed people's bodies, almost one tooth at a time. If a site is designed to be viewed on a phone, I really can't figure out why the designers would use grey text. Phones are used in all kinds of ambient lighting, including outdoors, so there needs to be maximum contrast between text and background. It seems I'm not the only one who doesn't like the new site design, anyway. |
