Issues with new website

The new website has a few issues on an older machine like mine:

1. The badges are are transformed into unattractive mono-color versions.
2. Some pages, "My contribution" for instance, are blank in some browsers, such as Safari.
3. The "My contribution page" displays less information than before and uses space inefficiently, with large fonts that make determining status at a glance more difficult.

If any of these changes were intentional, I suggest that appropriate respect for the user community is to survey the the entire user base for their needs and wishes BEFORE making changes.

Taurus_Oldbull,

We just tried to reproduce the problem you mentioned in #2 and didn't see any issues. Please contact our support team (support@worldcommunitygrid.org) with screenshots so they can help pinpoint the cause of any blank pages.

Re: Issues with new website

Is the web site developer and maintainer colour blind?
While the graphical presentation of the current project contribution is nice, making visible what projects the member currently contribute, I deeply miss the full project list .
Likewise I miss the 30/60/90/180/365 daily contribution list as well as team contribution .
I have now to write extra script for maintaining up-to-date my contribution overview (see links in my signature).

I was a little bit afraid last week with the change announcement but decided to remain quiet not to overreact.
I am today very disappointed to have to notice that members are only considered being freely available computational resource without any consideration regarding what they wish.

Krembil team: you succeed in less than one week to frustrate and disappoint many members, showing that you are able to ignore them more than IBM did sometime in the past!
After over 14.5 years, I do really not know this evening if I will stay.

Re: Issues with new website

PS: The new badge design is ridiculous, since no real colour is visible.

A couple of comments:

The new website was created by an IBM design team. This was in the works long before a transition to another home was even a possibility.

The new site was created in response to volunteer feedback that we received over a number of years in surveys, emails, social media posts, and also here in the forum. Some of the specific items in the feedback were contradictory (e.g., wanting more badges for large time increments vs wanting more for smaller time increments), which is to be expected among a large group with different viewpoints and experiences.

Going forward, decisions about future website development will be up to the team at Krembil. But right now, and probably for awhile, they are focusing on the transition.

Re: Issues with new website

I can live with this new site without a problem. I can get from it the data I want and need. Sure, there are things that could be done better, or differently, and things that could be added, but as usual, a new site will develop over time.

Edit: The only thing I could really complain about this far, is that the site is way too blindingly white/bright. That could be toned down a bit.

With that, I will congratulate the team for the new site. Well done, so far.

Please take a look at https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/api/docs/index.html

I think if you look at the stats-api or stats-history-api or other api's you will find what you need and you won't have to parse html any more.

Re: Issues with new website

The new website is certainly different. My first impression is that it is not as compact and easy to use as the old site. For instance, under "My Contribution" you could see a basic summary of all the projects you had crunched in a glance. With one click you could see your daily contribution in the categories of time, points and results. Now, neither of these is available. Yes, there is access to a .cvs history file which is quite detailed. I can manipulate this file to give me the summary results which used to available with one click, but it does involve some spreadsheet work to get it in the format which is meaningful.
I agree with idea the fonts are too big and the page involves scrolling to see what you need to see. This page needs some re-writing to be more user friendly. There should be no need to scroll on this page.
Edit: It also says I earned 193 badges which has to be wrong, there are not that many projects.
Cheers

Re: Issues with new website

I suppose they count each badge increment as an individual badge, hence 193.

I already miss the ability to see how much time i've done for each subproject, while looking at the badges. At least it should be visible while hovering the mouse over the badge. Now i can't tell exactly how much time is needed for next badge for example. I hope it comes back at some point.

Re: Issues with new website

caitilarkin,
I thank you for your answer. Nevertheless IBM or Krembil, the new design (and missing colours) does not look nice.
I think that many of us would like to be a little bit more involved (considered) by the evolution of WCG platform.
Many of us are contributing since years / decade, and finally WCG becomes over the years a little part of us.
It would be very appreciate that members would be more often consulted and that they could be part of some decision process ...
Cheers,
Yves
