The slowest ARP1-task/device

Can't remember seeing such a slow task as this one: 111 hours uninterrupted, probably on a slow device.

Re: The slowest ARP1-task/device

My i5 M520 regularly takes over 4 days (96 hours). I don't use it for ARP during hot periods as it shuts itself down too often.

Now here's one that took over five days (135 CPU hours), Mike:

Re: The slowest ARP1-task/device

Here is my slow Intel Atom N270 32 bit, 2GB RAM, 1 core 2 threads. Given it 1 more try since the deadline appears to have been extended to 8 days. With 1 task (50% CPU threads), ARP1 completed slightly less then 7 days.

Around 17 to 25 hours for each checkpoint. With just 1 task at a time it can make it. Trying to run 2 tasks at the same time (1 ARP1 + 1 OPN1/MIP1) slows down Intel Atom N270 too much it would go past the ARP1 deadline.

The recommendation for ARP is a maximum of half of total threads so you are within that.

However, you should be able to run an OPN or MCM alongside that ARP.

Re: The slowest ARP1-task/device

My stone age ACER Aspire M5641 from 2009, (Q8200 CPU, on a MCP73PV MB, 4GB, OS Vista), seems to take around 36-38 hours for an ARP task, running 1 ARP, and 3 MCM1. I don't know the exact times yet, since I've never been running ARP on that stone age machine before. I usually do not run it at all, but now I though I should have some fun with ancient hardware. smile

Re: The slowest ARP1-task/device

36-38 hours would classify as 'reliable'. Try it with 2 ARP just for fun! I might even try my 2-core Vista machine which is sitting in the loft, now Winter is approaching.

Re: The slowest ARP1-task/device

I'll do that, but I fear that will be one bridge too far, for that old machine. smile

Edit: I can directly see, that 2 ARP, and 2 MCM1 on a Core2 Quad CPU Q8200, with 4GB memory, is one ARP too much. The progress of both is now down to a crawl. With 1 ARP, and 3 MCM1, the progress seems to be 3%/hour, now it looks as if it's down to 1.5%/hour at best. Of course, in total 2 ARP at a time would in that case, if the runtime is doubled/ARP, produce the same as 1 ARP at a time. However, that old computer does not need that much pain.smile I'll revert to just 1 ARP, and 3 MCM1.

But this old dinosaur computer is not something I will continue to run BOINC on. This was just a fun test of old hardware.

Re: The slowest ARP1-task/device

I suspect the problem is the 4 GB rather than old age or CPU.

Yes, highly likely. And since that computer is ACER made, and not something I put together myself from parts, it's got a lot of "extra" ACER programs running too, which I haven't bothered to remove or turn off. So, I noticed that with 2 ARP, and 2 MCM1 running, it started to "touch" the swap file from time to time. Then of course, the DDR2 memory isn't the fastest memory either. smile

As of now, the running ARP is at 70.5%, after a runtime of 25 hours, and 56 minutes.
