Looks like it might not work when WCG is doing their twice-daily stats update. I may need to add an error trap to advise in that event
----------------------------------------Also, your WCG account will need a validated email address please [Edit 1 times, last edit by davidBAM at Aug 9, 2021 3:58:50 AM] |

If you share the link on your team forums (and I hope you will), this variant might be better to share as it copes with a wider range of characters in usernames

This certificate looks great!
One small thought: might it be better to have black text on a white background, rather than white on black? That would save ink when printing. Cheers Mark |

I've been rumbled - I bought up loads of shares in ink manufacturers and am sitting back waiting for the profits to roll in.
But yeah - I'll maybe hack around the CSS some day - TBH, I find that more difficult than the actual programming. Thanks for all the feedback guys. |

So far, 49 different users on 15 different teams have generated certificates. Great going.

offering official WCG printed pdf certificates via email is a great idea, I dont know why they dont do it. It would incentivize participation and be a great conversation starter. Could easily be automated and added to the electronic messages we get at the moment when we gain badges.

The API gives me the accumulated run-time in seconds so I divide by 365.25 / 24 / 3600 which I assumed would be the sensible thing to do to account for leap years.
Does that account for the difference? Might be better to agree with the official site I suppose (even if I do consider it wrong). Can you try again now please |

The API gives me the accumulated run-time in seconds so I divide by 365.25 / 24 / 3600 which I assumed would be the sensible thing to do to account for leap years. Let's say we claim that a year lasts 365 days plus a quarter of a day. This may be a sensible choice in the long run, but when you start counting after a leap year (e.g. 2020), then when one year (e.g. 2021) has passed, the number of days is 365 while we have done figures with 365.25 days; after two years 730 days have passed and we have calculated 730.50 days; and after three years the number of days is 1095 while we computed 1095.75 days.In any case it's good that you have found the reason for the difference. We can ascertain if 365 days is correct. One way is to look at one's own stats at verifyMember.do with youraccountname filled out, including its code, i.e. your Verification Code (which you'll find at your Profile), then pick some project with 1 year or more on the scoreboard and do the math. Example: <ProjectName>GO Fight Against Malaria</ProjectName> <ProjectShortName>gfam</ProjectShortName> <RunTime>34706072</RunTime> "My project contribution" on my Overview page tells me that this is 1:036:16:34:32 (what units? unclear!). Anyway, we found 34706072 seconds in this example, so we can start computing (with 365 days (of 86400 seconds each): perl -we ' Run it ... 1:036:16:34:32 Quelle surprise! Nice outcome. ![]() Now do the math for a project with 10 years or more on the scoreboard that includes at least one leap year. |
