Re: July Update: Africa Rainfall Project

Good advice, but people wanting to increase the number of work units assigned should ensure they keep the much higher requirements in mind. Because each work unit only has 8 checkpoints and keeping data in memory when the computer is in use is recommended, this should only be run on computers that are not shut down.

I limit ARP to 15 threads on my computer based on advice given to have it limited to half your threads minus one by posters elsewhere. But I then limit the total work units downloaded to 20, otherwise the client can sometimes download only ARP work units to fill the queue and then not make use of free threads toward other projects that have been selected. Shouldn't be an issue for those who just bump it up from one to two per the news post's advice, though.

Re: July Update: Africa Rainfall Project

Right now we have about 15,000 task ready to be sent out. If we can consistently send out (and receive back) another 3,500 or so results per day then we will be running the project as fast as we can. Hopefully by getting some number of volunteers who are contributing to the project to boost the number of allowed tasks from 1 to 2 or 3 we hope to be able to achieve that.
