So, I take it then that HSTB like MIP will soon go full AI, and end their project here.
Soon, there's no projects left on WCG, because they'll all go to full AI.

Whilst that may well be true in the longer term, I don't get that from my reading of the news item...
Building on his prior experience with statistics and methodology development, Connor will be designing machine-learning approaches that can be used to help study the data generated throughout the Help Stop TB project . By integrating machine learning with innovative multidisciplinary toolkits, Connor hopes to help understand the factors governing mycolic acid folding whilst ensuring explainability, interpretability, and transparency.

I take that to indicate that he'll be working with the HST1 [BEDAM] output. Your reading of the above may, of course, be different (and may be longer-term than mine!) We'll just have to wait and see.

Cheers - Al.

Re: Meet the newest member of the Help Stop TB research team

Sup!
I claim no expertise in computer science, especially AI, but as I read it the machine learning (which I wouldn't call AI because it's way simpler) merely looks at the data generated by us / by WCG. It's not like some weird super computer AI takes over all of the WUs and all of the projects will be finished in basically no time.
It just enhances the speed in which the actual research results come in. We're basically just crunching raw data, gigabytes or most probably even terabytes of them, and those data would mean nothing to us or anyone human since they're probably just (likely) energy states for different chemical structures.
So don't worry :P we'll be here for quite a while (sadly. I want the projects to end, I mean that's the whole point. Finish and move on to the next)

Cheers, Amal
