Hello Everyone, I am not sure if this question has been posted already. If it has, please direct me to it.
I am trying to contribute using my GPU. Everything is working fine except the GPU units work at 100% of the GPU making my computer unresponsive. I am able to setup % of usage for my CPU and that is working fine but when a GPU unit downloads and starts, I cannot use my computer. How can I setup % of GPU usage so I can still contribute using my GPU but I can also use my computer? thank you |

It is an Nvidia Quadro K2200.
----------------------------------------My Son has a computer with an Nvidia 1050Ti which I have not setup to allow GPU because he plays games and I am testing my PC first. If this is an issue on all GPUs my Son would not be happy if his games don't work properly. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Emilio Lopez at Jul 1, 2021 12:56:59 PM] |

I can't really help. My RX 550 doesn't really have this issue and I have believe newer GPUs don't either.
----------------------------------------Old GPU's that I used to have did have this issue. You could set GPU Computing to run only when idle. I had a laptop with a 1050TI and it ran Folding@home fine. AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

You could set GPU Computing to run only when idle. Exactly; and I've set my suspend time to just a few minutes as to not lose to much crunching time. ![]() |

What is your CPU usage while running GPU tasks on k2200?
----------------------------------------I have several laptops that has weaker gpu than k2200; GPU usage at 100% and no problems. Also I have workstations with multiple GPUs (including 1050ti), at GPU 100% OS is still usable. Also check GPU and CPU temps. |

I am not sure if Xeon CPU has to do with the issue. For example, i am watching a youtube video and the gpu is working. the video is so choppy. i cannot watch it. the computer takes so long to do anything.
I also have tried to check the option to NOT use gpu while computer is in use but that doesn't work. the only way is to check the suspend all while computer is in use. which defeats the purpose of the whole software; that is to use unused cpu while the computer is in use. for now, i have removed the gpu on my PC and only using cpu. I was hopping to find someone that had a solution. maybe a setting that i have not seen. |

My NVidia GT 1030 and AMD RX 550, and AMD 5500 XT, on windows 10, are all very usable while crunching GPU. Video plays fine. For games that use 100% GPU, it just drops FPS in half.
Quadro K2200 is GM107, an older Maxwell. I guess old GPU have poor multitasking. If you want to, can try GTX 1050, a newer NVidia Pascal GPU, which I guess should be able to handle multitasking nicely. Can try using BOINC Options, exclusive applications. On windows they often have ".exe" at the end of program/app name as seen in task manager. Make sure BOINC activity have "Use GPU Based on preferences", so it can auto suspend GPU or everything when a listed exclusive program is running. |

There used to be a third party utility that pegged GPU usage at "X" temperature (indirectly controlling it's utilization as a result), but it hasn't worked stably since Windows 8.1 so I won't link it here. Otherwise, there is no way to do this unless you underclock your GPU

Quadro should have "max GPU utilization" slider somewhere in Windows drivers or in Windows device manager's device properties, it may help. Regular GeForce don't have that slider and max utliization = 100 couldn't be used with them, for preventing GUI slowiness with GeForce with compute loads - Windows use default max GPU utilization = 95% or so, and users don't have access to it for adjusting.
----------------------------------------Have Linux Mint 20.2 with 1070, Linux drivers use default max.utilization = 100 with GeForce and don't have problems with video during GPU WUs crunching, but Linux drivers stack with Linux kernel is different story compared to Windows.
