Any batches below 44xx will probably have bad tasks mixed in.

this sounds euphemistic. At least to my own experience, most of these tasks turn out being invalid.
I don't understand why they are not eliminated right away instead of being sent out to us.

Just had a few more nibbles. One of them (OPNG_0003761_00108) is invalid, but the others with higher batch numbers were fine.

ETA hours later: a bunch have come in. There were a couple of duds, but otherwise I'm seeing lots of valid units aside from those needing a wingman.

I'd guess you got caught by a Windows update - possibly an incomplete driver from Microsoft, instead of the real full thing from AMD. What do your local BOINC logs say at startup, especially about OpenCL?
