Does anyone know if AVX instructions are utilized by the MIP project?
----------------------------------------I have a i5-650 (4M L3 cache) and a i5-3330 (6M L3 cache) dedicated to the project. Running one work unit at a time, the i5-3330 is much faster (30-40%) than the i5-650. I would not think the big elapsed time difference can be attributed entirely to the L3 cache issue. The i5-650 has a pass mark score of 2209 whilst the i5-3330 has a score of 4052 so I would expect a bigger difference than you’re seeing just on the power of the processor. |

I don't think any WCG apps use any kind of special instructions (AVX, FMA, etc).
----------------------------------------I think they use SSE2? (Or something like that?) The i5-650 is a 2C/4T CPU while the i5-3330 is a 4C/4T CPU so that could contribute a bit as well.
