7.16.16 for Android which is a major rewrite and first update in 4 years it says (though I've got 7.16.3 on the droid and been running great). Not shown up in my playstore although I've the beta channel active too).
7.16.11 for desktops (mac has 7.16.16 out with a specific bug fix but don't see it listed). The biggy is allowing to name your device in the cc_config.xml. Now you can fake a name and not be advertising the true name to WCG or anyone on the BOINC wide web... name it Area51 for instance. Catch them here https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php |

Read this thread on the BOINC site before installing it. Seems to be lots of bugs in that version:
----------------------------------------https://boinc.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=14165 Example of one conclusion from an experienced person: "This isn't a very good version to have on a phone that is actively used, but also when it's being charged. I have constant BOINC app crashes & restarts. And once every so often that I put the phone on a charger, BOINC starts resuming, crashes and then never restarts. Or that I put the phone on a charger, BOINC resumes, then suspends again because I open something, and stays there until I unplug & replug. I do not recommend using this version." I don't see that as a "biggy". Mine are called xubuntu, x-ubuntu, xubuntu2, HP8460-PC, and BobT400-PC. What does this give away? Bob is my name but also the name of the person who gave me the Lenovo T400.
Also Berkeley forces a password on me which I don't want. Agreed they should provide a default password but should allow the owner to override. These machines are in my basement and no one has access. I know better what my security needs are than some coder in a lab at Berkley. I should be more worried about "bad code" being loaded on these machines but the Berkeley site assures us it is safe. I'm good with that. So I'm NOT all in and will stick with the WCG version until it stops working. |

The newly released Android version will at some point in the future be a big improvement over the current 7.4.53 or 7.16.3 which do not support the added features of newer Android OS versions and Hardware capabilities. At this point I would suggest waiting for Testers to resolve some of the early release issues on 7.16.16 before loading the BOINC version of Android. Bill F ![]() ![]() |
