Hi all. I have a machine which is likely to need to have its OS installed clean. What file(s) do I need to grab from the machine to allow the new OS and BOINC install to report, and have World Community Grid recognize, the machine being the same one as before the rebuild? If this was a question I could've self served, please let me know how so I'll do so next time. Thanks in advance.

Reinstalling the same os onto an existing machine should not trigger a change of host id so from the server side you’re fine. Keeping the stats within the client Boinc Manager is a different matter, I’ve never tried to do so and cannot advise. |

If this machine does just WCG then save nothing. Keep the name the same. If it's a work machine then do whatever to save personal data, apps, etc. Keep the name the same.
----------------------------------------I rebuilt a machine with the same OS (Linux) and did nothing else. Kept the name. Someone even said that is not necessary. https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,43031 In another instance I swapped the OS disk to another AMD motherboard and all was OK. Then I swapped it to an Intel 3770 and it still kept on going using same stats. Boinc Manager [Edit 3 times, last edit by BobbyB at Feb 10, 2021 3:39:01 PM] |

As I already mentioned in the thread linked by BobbyB, if you want to be 99,999% sure - keep you Boinc data folder, where all the configuration files are kept. After reinstallation of the server and installation of Boinc agent do not log in into WCG, just restore the Boinc data folder to its location.
----------------------------------------I had in the past a few situations where, after reinstallation, WCG decided to create another device for the same machine, so I prefer to be on the most safe side as possible. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by katoda at Feb 12, 2021 7:15:32 AM] |
