Re: COVID "vs" Microbiome

Sgt. Joe, I was using British data, but don't have the actual figures available. It was particularly marked among employees of the National Health Service.

Re: COVID "vs" Microbiome

Mr. Gibson:
I did find a study by the British Office of National Statistics which does coincide with the information you have. Their study is very comprehensive and is interesting reading. You can find it here. If I can find similar information for the U.S. I will pass it on. This makes me wonder what the effect of geography and different health systems might have on morbidity.
Cheers

Re: COVID "vs" Microbiome

Suggestion - top up your vitamin D!

Very good advice. They don't necessarily include it in a standard blood test, but your doctor can ask for it. I started taking supplements a few years ago. The small amount in a multi-vitamin pill was not enough. Taking it after you get to the hospital is too late. You have to build it up early to get the protection.

Yeah vitamin D, that's kinda funny being in Canada. They stopped the testing, just started saying you live here, you're low, take the vitamin D. I don't care what color you are, we don't get enough sunlight to make vitamin D, unless we are already taking some. I was taking 1000 (International units), now I've upped to 3 or 4.
About people of color, often they have lower economic income, hence poor nutrition, access to medical care, and jobs considered essential so more exposed to the virus. Living in more crowded conditions, now seeing news reports where people of color are less likely to want to take the vaccine EVEN when working in health care. I get it, the past was horrible to people of color in medical experiments. As a vet, I know they experimented on us as well, but I'm taking the vaccine. Stay safe

Re: COVID "vs" Microbiome

The yanks aren't sharing either.

You are getting at least the Moderna ones, and probably others too.

A lot of governments are trying to excuse their failure to order early.

"All Canada's doses of COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna are currently made in and shipped from Europe."
Europe is promising to keep shipping to Canada but since pfizer had to slow down to retool, Europe is either keeping/threatening to cut exports.

I will say Canada did order early and by a lot. They ordered like 100 million doses, and a population under 40 million. These from 6 different companies. Recently ordered more from Pfizer and Moderna I believe.
My numbers aren't perfect, but you get the drift.

So no, again the US isn't sharing, BUT, I get it, there is a shortage. The whole world needs to be vaccinated for this to work.
P.S. I'm half yank, why I can use the term.

Re: COVID "vs" Microbiome

I take a multivitamin that has 20ug of Vitamin D, which is 400% of the UK's NRV.
Back in November, early days, I decided to give a couple of boxes to my 91 year old grandfather because of what I had read on Vitamin D and COVID-19. I also had a small hope that it would help with his vertigo, which had been increasingly serious recently. I thought maybe he needed some minerals that the multivitamin tablet could provide. It must have helped with that too since he has only had 1 (albeit serious) episode of vertigo ever since he started taking them. Other than his vertigo, he is an extremely healthy man for his age.

In summary, supplementation can be useful, even if you eat well.

Yes. I think the countries that are getting the supplies are the ones that built production capacity early. And production problems are limiting even that.
