Hey I'm not picking on any project,
----------------------------------------just wondering peoples opinions on whether COVID project, or Microbiome project is more important. I'm not stopping COVID research, but with multiple vaccines approved for COVID, and who knows what for biome project. what should we be researching (again, i'm still going for 10 years COVID, but maybe switching to 60% biome) what say you, just looking for advice not an argument. Most people here are non argumentative and I appreciate it. ![]() |

I feel that since enough members select all projects, WCG can shift the workload around as needed. So, I can pick my project goals as I like.
----------------------------------------But COVID was my first project to reach 20 years, so now is the time for some of the other projects to catch up. |

Hi Jack007,
----------------------------------------at first, because of MIP1 memory needs, you should not allocate MIP1 on a machine to more than 50% of the available cores; ideally: (total core / 2) - 1. Secondly, the current situation with Covid is absolutely not satisfying. Vaccination is starting on a large scale, without knowing how long the generated immunity will remain: 6, 12, 18 months or longer ? ... nobody knows since nobody can know about it at this time. At the same time, there is still no efficient therapy available for the infected and sick patients. The situation represents a real challenge and, imho, it cannot remain in this current state. Regarding Covid, the time to relax is still far away. Happy crunching, cheers, Yves |

Thank you for your responses.
----------------------------------------After hearing yesterday about the South African variant, seems like this could be a struggle for years. ![]() |

Yes, I am putting priority on COVID until the situation with the vaccines becomes more clear. The others are very important too, and I still do a bit of MIP and MCM (and Folding on my GPUs), but the emphasis for me has to be COVID. Best luck to all.

Ok, 2 mip the rest covid.
----------------------------------------Looks like I'll get COVID before a vaccine. In Canada we have to rely on European manufacturing, and they are talking about hoarding it within the EU. The yanks aren't sharing either. We were supposed to be done by September, now they say next year. I mean fair enuf, if Canada had manufacturing for vaccines I'm sure they wouldn't share more than a token amount. Good luck everyone getting vaccinated. ![]() |

The yanks aren't sharing either. You are getting at least the Moderna ones, and probably others too. https://modernatx.gcs-web.com/news-releases/n...a-covid-19-vaccine-canada A lot of governments are trying to excuse their failure to order early. |

Vaccine day tomorrow for me, but there is a suggestion that COVID will keep mutating and will need an annual jab of new strains just like the flu jabs do.
Opn is looking for cures for people who catch it rather than a vaccine to prevent it. There will be enough stupid refusers of the vaccine to need a cure. And for the next Coronavirus and the next and........ There also seems to be a link to Vitamin D levels which seems to be why BAMEs suffer more than whites owing to a less efficient use of sunlight to produce vitamin D as they originally come from areas with more sunlight. Suggestion - top up your vitamin D! Mike |

Suggestion - top up your vitamin D! Very good advice. They don't necessarily include it in a standard blood test, but your doctor can ask for it. I started taking supplements a few years ago. The small amount in a multi-vitamin pill was not enough. Taking it after you get to the hospital is too late. You have to build it up early to get the protection. BAMEs suffer more than whites Rather than use an acronym (which I never heard of, I had to look it up) why not be more specific. I don't think it is OK to lump all those groups in one category. And show me the numbers where this is true. I have numbers from Minnesota which refute this assertion. Using the 2019 estimated population figures and the current death figures from the Minnesota Department Of Health these are the numbers: Ethnicity Population % of Total Population % of deaths White, non Hispanic 4,460,149 79.09 83.17 Black non-Hispanic 382,621 6.78 4.84 Asian non Hispanic 288,583 5.12 3.82 Am. Ind/Alaska Nat.Non Hisp 60,251 1.07 1.4 Nat. Hawaiian/Pac. Islander/non-Hispanic 2,941 0.05 0.097 Multiple Races Non-Hispanic 129,957 2.3 1.42 Hispanic 315,130 5.59 2.995 There are two other categories which are listed on the website which are Other non-Hispanic and Unknown/missing. The total deaths for these two categories are 23 and 117 respectively which are only a small proportion of the total deaths (6210) in Minnesota attributed to Covid-19. ( I can not find a breakdown in the census data for these two groups.) As noted in the table above, the three groups which are affected more than what would be expected from their proportion of the population are White non-Hispanic, American Indian/Alaska Native non Hispanic, and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander non Hispanic. These are just Minnesota figures, the figures nationwide may be different, but so far I have not found the data to do this. So, I would caution about making blanket statements without the figures to back up the assertion. If I have any errors here, please post and let me know. Cheers
Sgt. Joe
