Re: Ryzen and Linux ?

Question for you Linux gurus. I put together the AMD setup my son gave me. I pulled the SSD drive out of my other cruncher to test it out. Seemed to run fine. Don't want to put a dvd drive in this sytem since its a pure cruncher, so was thinking of pulling that ssd drive again and leaving it in the AMD build. Anyone see any issues with this? The other cruncher has a dvd drive so can put another ssd drive in and install linux again. Appreciate your help.

I see no problem, Linux queries the environment during boot and adapts so unless you’ve moved part of the disk space to another drive then it will run quite happily.

Re: Ryzen and Linux ?

I have Kubuntu 20.04 running on a Ryzen 9 3900X.
Works like a charm for WCG. In parallel I operate GPUGrid for the Nvidia 2070S on the same machine.

Re: Ryzen and Linux ?

Got a new linksys wifi usb stick, (AC1200) for this computer. Can not get it to work. Updating to the latest Ubuntu (20.04) to see if that helps. Still googling for answers.

I have not been able to get any wireless to work with Linux, so all my Linux machines are wired, at least to a hub which is wired to a wireless range extender. It is my understanding that the wireless protocols are proprietary so are not built into most Linux distributions. I seem to remember Sekerob posting about a Linux distro which had the wireless drivers integrated in to the distro, but I can not find it at the moment. If I do, I will post a link if I do.
Cheers

Same here. Ubuntu worked fine on 18.xx with a USB WiFi adapter. On 20.xx none of them work unless I install a new WiFi card on the Motherboard. Unfortunately, most of my Linux machines are USFF devices too small for a card. So I had to search through the parts closet and install a switch & cat6 patch cables to get them to connect. I thought I was done with Ethernet cables!!! crying

I have loaded every driver package I could find on "Ask Ubuntu" and nothing has worked except installing a new WiFi card and loading its proprietary driver. I hope this gets fixed in the next distro.

Re: Ryzen and Linux ?

My linksys AE1000 wifi usb stick works on both systems. The linksys AC1200 doesn't work on either version 18 or 20 Ubuntu.
