I really want to help with this project, but I downloaded BOINC and couldn't find it in the list of projects. How do I add it to my manager? if I filter by Earth Sciences I only see the Climate Change one.
Please help, David Olson |

In BOINC manager, you select World Community Grid.
And then select Africa Rainfall Project in your Device Profiles. (If you want to do only ARP, you can just use the "Default" profile.) https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewBoincProfileConfiguration.do |

Be aware of the high system requirements for this project:
----------------------------------------https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=minimumreq On my slower PCs these run for over 50 hours and only checkpoint 7 times per run, about 7 hours apart. Using hibernate if needing to power down avoids loss of time since checkpoint. Paul.

7 days for originals, re-sends may be shorter.
----------------------------------------My faster PCs return in about a day. Paul.

There is a deadline of 7 days for normal units or 3.5 days for some re-sends. However, those shorter re-sends are only supposed to go to machines that regularly report valid units within 3.5 days.
Most modern machines return units within about 1 day, but that is only if a maximum of half the threads are utilised for ARP. The remainder can be used for other sub-projects. Mike |

I thought re-sends only went to systems returning within 2 days, or is this project more.

Dear Paul,
Thanks. my problem was I didn't see the radio switch for 'use existing account' or similar and tough I had to create a new one, but of course that didn't work. I'm connected now and ARP is running. Since it's so CPU intensive I think I cancel my other project. thanks, David |

That was the situation before arp came along but Uplinger said he was going to up it. I suggested the 50% of deadline idea which he said he was going to consider. He didn't come back with a confirmation but it did go up somewhat. I did get one on a machine that often took 4 days. That might have been in error. Mike |

If you have more than one thread, restrict arp to half of them and keep the other project on the other threads. You can do that with app_config.xml Mike |
